Many Skype issues this week which makes for weird audio quality and we apologize for that, but it’s still a fun and crazy show. We ask if the iPad is a real computer with mixed results and Gaz answers a listener’s question about using an iPad in the UK. From there your two favorite airheads talk about AirPrint in iOS and Nik Hall comes through with a “Gaz’s Tips” theme song! How cool is that?

SkySafari 3 Pro

Version 3.5.1
License: US$59.99 (SkySafari Plus US$14.99, SkySafari 3 US$2.99) Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires IOS 4.0 or later.
As an amateur astronomer and a volunteer public observatory telescope operator, I regularly use astronomy related programs and applications. I have reviewed several of the iOS applications here on MyMac.com.
Southern Stars makes SkySafari for Mac OS X, and SkySafari 3 for iOS. It is available in three different performance and cost options: the basic, the Plus, and the Pro version. About a year ago I purchased the SkySafari Plus for my iMac through the Apple App Store. The performance and capabilities of this program on my iMac are excellent.

We owe Samsung an apology! And a firm finger-shaking Shame On YOU to RIM. In iOS new is RockBand, Robot Wants Kitty, and Lego Harry Potter Years 5 – 7. We wrap things up with the Kindle Fire. It all seems to be Mobile this week!
Generally when a deal is too good to be true, it often is.

In this case the deal is legitimate and helps many MobileMe users take the next step to becoming iCloud users. The offer does not extend to non-MobileMe subscribers. It is interesting to note that even though I have already made the transition to iCloud from MobileMe, Apple is still willing to send me a free copy of Snow Leopard.

Hmmm…brains…need more brains….
Zombies are always on the hunt for brains. It is surprising, that they never end up more intelligent, or less zombie-like.

Little Lost Zombie is the type of game that will turn you into a zombie. That is not necessarily a bad thing. We all like to zone out from reality, and a game that is simple in approach but challenging is always a good way to spend those few minutes of our spare time.

Pioneer Elite N-30 Networked Audio Player
Company: Pioneer Electronics
Price: $499.00 USD
Pioneer, a venerable name in home audio, has come up with a pair of interesting devices to better integrate the audio part of the internet and your own digital music library into your home audio system, the N-30 and N-50 Networked Audio Players. The Networked Audio Players are part of Pioneer’s Elite product line, noted for their excellent construction and superb audio quality. Pioneer foolishly loaned me an N-30 to evaluate. I say foolishly only because I seem to attract products for review that have fundamental flaws that cause me to write far too many negative reviews. Sadly, this is one of them.

Guy and Gaz finally get back together after the Macworld Expo and go over all the major events as seen through the eyes of Guy (No guarantees about accuracy). Gaz in withdrawal does about a billion other podcasts. There was a lot of listener feedback which they only kinda half-answer (they’ll get back to it, promise!). A longer show because Guy doesn’t when to stop TALKING!

It’s the last day of the Macworld/ iWorld Expo and I feel like I owe you website readers an apology. I haven’t written much this trip and while I have a pretty good reason for it, it still doesn’t feel right. This was the “Take as little as possible to the Expo with just iOS devices to do everything I needed to” experiment.
As said previously, I’m going all iOS this year. That means all audio, blogging, and video editing must be done strictly with the hardware and software only available through Apple’s iOS ecosystem and nothing else.

As I’ve been moaning about for the last year on the MyMac.com Podcast, I’m not taking a Mac laptop to the Macworld Expo this year. I’ve decided to do everything on my 1st generation iPad to include audio, video, and blogging. All edited with a trusty iOS device. Oh I’ll have my iPhone 4S too to actually record the audio and video, but everything else will be done with my iPad.
Thule Crossover Backpack
Thule
Price: $129.95
The Thule Crossover Backpack is elegantly constructed with lots of storage and a crush proof compartment. The backpack weighs 2.75 pounds which may be the only drawback for daily use. The $129.95 price is indicative of the quality of construction which is consistent with Thule products.
Thule is marketing this backpack for Apple’s 17 inch MacBook Pro and iOS devices. There is an elevated laptop compartment perfectly designed for the MacBook Pro, a sleeve for the iPad, and plush lined pockets for iPod or mobile phone storage. The lockable crush proof SafeZone compartment can be used to store fragile gear like sunglasses. The main compartment is roomy enough for books and bulky items. There is a Shove-it Pocket that provides external storage that is deep enough for a newspaper and Thule claims could accommodate a jacket. In my opinion, a windbreaker may fit but a jacket or sweater would be a tight fit. Other features of the backpack include water resistant nylon fabric with padded shoulder straps and grab handle, a bottom zippered pocket for additional storage of small accessories, a front storage compartment for easy access items, and a side external pocket that can stretch to fit a water bottle.
