Mischief – Review

On January 5, 2015, in Apps, Mac, Review, by Donny Yankellow

Company: Made with Mischief

Price: $25 ($24.99 if bought through Mac App Store instead of website)

There are two types of art programs for the Mac. The first type gives you tons of bells and whistles that include effects, different media to use, color controls, and more. The second type focuses on one thing and tries to do that one thing well. Mischief, an app by the company Made with Mischief, is the second type. It is a bare bones paint program that has two main tools for drawing: paint and an eraser. While it sounds basic at first, it is a lot more.

HTML Egg Web Page Creator
Company: Aidaluu Inc
iTunes Link
Price $15.99

If you have a website and an iOS device wouldn’t it be great to be able to edit that website through an app on the iOS device? I’ve been looking for such an app, and I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to try the HTMP Egg Web Page Creator.

HTML Egg aims to be an iWeb type of app for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod. How does it work? Can you really create and maintain a website through the app? The answer to those questions are complicated and really depend on the type of website you have.

Crayola Color Studio HD

On October 12, 2011, in Apps, iPad, Review, by Donny Yankellow

Crayola Color Studio HD Review
Company: Griffin Technology
Price: $29.99

When I heard about the Color Studio HD earlier this year I was really interested. A “pen” that you can use with the iPad in a coloring app. It sounded great and I couldn’t wait to try it out. Well, recently Griffin sent me a sample unit and I got to satisfy my curiosity. Is it as great as it seemed? Read on to find out.

First, a little more about the Color Studio HD. The Color Studio HD consists of two parts. First there is an iPad app which is free to download from the App Store. The app consists of animated coloring pages. Second, and the main part, is the drawing pen. The pen looks like an oversized Crayola marker which runs on a AA battery. The tip is rubber and the bottom is the on/off switch. It is like a battery powered stylus that makes a humming sound when on. The concept is that you use the pen to color the animated pages in the app.

Find a Mac App Store Bargain

On February 24, 2011, in Apple, Review, by Elisa Pacelli

Store News
Cost: Free
Requires: Snow Leopard

With the success of the App Store within iTunes for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, Apple decided to give Mac users the same experience for their computers with the release of the Mac App Store.

Like the iTunes App Store, the Mac App Store can be browsed by Categories, Featured, or Top Charts. But there’s nothing within the Mac App Store interface that shows which apps are on sale, or have lowered their price. That’s where Store News comes in.

Solar System for iPad

On January 25, 2011, in Apple, Apps, First Look, iPad, Review, by Mike Breed

Solar System for iPad Review
Company: Touch Press
Price: $13.99 USD

I’m nuts about anything that has to do with science. That interest stems from the fact that I’m also an Earth Science teacher and Science Department Chairman at Chenango Valley High School. I spend every working day talking about science to students from every background. To do that, you’d better have a true passion about the subject matter. After having reviewed Touch Press’s app The Elements last year, I was excited to see the release of their latest offering, Solar System for iPad, as the App of the Week on the iTunes App Store. The graphics in Solar System for iPad are just as amazing as they were with The Elements. The 842 MB installation is a testament to the level of detail that Touch Press has put into the application. Installation of the app is lengthy, so much so that I highly recommend that you install by syncing with your computer rather than directly on your iPad via the App Store application.

iPad App Review – MotionX GPS Drive HD

On August 9, 2010, in Apps, iPad, Review, by Donny Yankellow

MotionX GPS Drive HD=
iTunes Link

MotionX GPS Drive HD for the iPad is my first experience with any GPS unit. I have never found the need for one, but I had heard a lot of buzz around this app and was about to go on two trips when I was asked to review it. What a better test?

Before I get to the performance of the app, I want to talk about a few features.

First, the search. The search feature in the app is great. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant you can select that from the list of categories and up will come a list to choose from. You can search in any number of categories, or type in an address or place to search for.

Review: ArtStudio for iPad

On July 30, 2010, in Apps, iPad, Review, by Donny Yankellow

ArtStudio for iPad
Company: Lucky Clan

Price: $4.99
iTunes link

Recently I reviewed the iPhone/iPod Touch version of ArtStudio and I loved it.  It was and still is my favorite art program for that platform. With that said what could be better than ArtStudio? How about ArtStudio for iPad! All of the ArtStudio greatest and more to the bigger iPad screen.

I’ve been playing with the iPad version of ArtStudio for several weeks now and just like it’s smaller counterpart it is fantastic.
