Will the iPod Touch become the iPad Nano?

I read a rumor today that Apple is making 5-7 inch iPads for next year. I don’t know if that is true or not, but it got me thinking.

If there is any truth to the rumor these smaller iPads could be called the iPad Mini, just like the Mac Mini and the retired iPod Mini. If that were to happen, why not rename the iPod Touch the iPad Nano? It is basically a really small iPad. If Apple is going to start a line of iPads the Touch fits better in that line than the iPod line.

Even if the rumor isn’t true, why not rename the iPod Touch the iPad Nano, or iPad Mini? The name “iPod Touch” is not the best name anyway. People don’t even use it. Most people I know think it is the “iTouch.”
