HTML. A code that seems so easy, yet sometimes, proves to be very challenging . About a year or two ago, HTML was not even touched by the average person, but left to the high-tech people that knew every command to type, every tag to insert, and memorized everything.

But now, we are in the midst of the Internet boom, and everybody wants their own web page! This is where a HTML editor comes into play. A HTML editor is a program that has the interface of a word processor, yet allows you to easily insert HTML tags into the document. When choosing a HTML editor, many factors come into play. The price, the interface, and ease of use are the main ones. I will cover the ways that Web Weaver covers each of these issues.

The Interface
World Wide Web Weaver has a very simple interface. You can insert any tag; from the very basic

paragraph tag to the very complex

frame and table tags. All of these commands are easily accessed from a side bar and inserted at the click of a button. Creating forms and tables is an awkward process, but Web Weaver tries its best to offer a graphical preview of those page elements. Also, Web Weaver can check your Web page to make sure you haven’t used an HTML tag incorrectly, and translate a whole section into HTML.

Web Weaver’s interface is far from appealing. It types its text in a pale pink color, not going with the grayish background of the tool bars. It does not run in native mode, and it is terribly slow on my Power Mac. In fact, it was ten times faster on my ‘030 Mac!

Lots of Tags
Web Weaver supports Anchor tags, body tags, form tags, glossary and definition tags, graphic tags, head tags, horizontal line tags, link tags, list tags, mailto tags, table tags, and all of the format, header, size and style tags. When you click on any of the buttons, the tag is either inserted or a window is opened which contains loads of options and attributes to the tag.

Now, you might be saying: “Ok, Adam, all these tags are great, but what if newer tags come out in later versions of HTML?” World Wide Web Weaver comes with an application called the “Simple Tag Editor” which allows you to easily add any tag to the program’s menu bars.

Availability
A fully functional demo version of World Wide Web Weaver is available at Miracle Software’s Web Site: http://www.miracleinc.com You will also find “HTML Web Weaver Lite 3.0” which is the shareware version of World Wide Web Weaver, costing $25. The commercial version is a lot more feature-rich then the shareware version, thus if you want to do a lot of HTML work, then you should get the commercial version.

Note: At the time this review was written, version 2.0 of WWWW had just shipped. The list price of this version was $89. I may review this at a later date, or do a comparison between it and different HTML editors.

The Summary
Overall, I am pleased with Web Weaver. It’s flexible and easy to use interface is a good choice for anyone that wants to learn HTML, or to create a fast HTML document. But I am not about to make it my permanent HTML editor-at least not for now. If you are hunting for a new HTML editor, then by all means, give it a try! But if you already have a HTML editor, don’t rush to replace it, at least not with Web Weaver. World Wide Web Weaver offers what any good HTML editor should. No less, but no more.
