Because It Is Still A Mac

Yesterday, Apple broke sales records again. The surprising news was that they did it with sales of their computers.

“The company made $430m profit on revenues of $3.68bn. This means profits are up fourfold on the same quarter last year. Mac sales totalled 1,236,000 against just 836,000 a year ago. Laptop sales were particularly strong with 634,000 iBooks and PowerBooks sold. Desktop sales were over 600,000 for the fourth consecutive quarter, despite some fears that sales may be hit as potential customers wait for next year’s Intel Macs.” (Source: Gondor News)

Picture hundreds of thousands of people, coming into those Apple Stores, or ordering from Apple’s website direct. Picture all those people as happy and satisfied – delighted, even, with their new computers.

Of course Apple will continue to sell the current crop of Macintoshes. Of course no one will hold back (OK, maybe a few) because the new Macs are not out, with the new CPUs from Intel.

Why?

Because people know that the Mac they buy today is the best computer there is. And because Macs don’t cost more than PCs any more. Why buy a Chevy when you can have a Ferrari for the same price?

Couple that computing experience of the Mac with excellent security and reliability, and a whole suite of free and exempliary software, and no wonder Apple’s profits have gone up 48% this past year.

When Steve Jobs announced recently that Apple Computers would be switching to Intel processors over the next two years, people cringed. They thought Steve had blundered making that announcement. They thought Apple would not sell another computer, until the switch was made. They thought people would not buy Macs with those inferior IBM chips inside. Guess all the analysts were wrong. His Steveness knew what he was doing, and that sales of current Macs would not be harmed at all.

Why?

Because it is still a Mac.

Way to go, Apple!
