We may see a good movie, or read a terrific book, two or three times. But a favorite song can become a constant companion during a lifetime, with many, many listenings over the decades.
If a song is *great* then its value becomes worth hundreds of dollars. I was listening to “Katmandu” by Bob Seger today in the car on my iPod, singing as loud as I could. The experience set my mood into positive high gear for the entire day. Many songs are “worth” a few dollars or more, but a sensational song has enormous value. Here are a few others at the top of my list:
Girl from the North Country (Bob Dylan)
A Teenager in Love (Dion and the Belmonts)
Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye (Ella Fitzgerald)
Don’t Be Cruel (Elvis Presley)
You Can Call Me Al (Paul Simon)
When Will I Be Loved (Everly Brothers)
Love Potion Number 9 (The Clovers)
Never Going Back Again (Fleetwood Mac)
Eat It (Weird Al Yankovic)
Amazing Grace (Judy Collins)
Drive My Car (Bobby McFerrin)
I Am Weary, Let Me Rest (Cox Family)
