MyMac Podcast 481: Gaz is in the Air!

If you prefer short, concise, well prepared and documented shows, you are gonna HATE this week’s episode. We badger Reggie Ashworth into joining us and that made for a longer than usual podcast. Gaz has a new iPad Air and Guy is VERY jealous (but trying hard not to show it so why he’s writing that in these show notes in the third person perspective is a mystery). Plus LOTS of feedback from our listeners and just the usual insanity of the GMen.

MyMac Podcast 480: Mavericks the new OS…OK

So much NEW stuff that Apple has released! So much recorded stuff the GMen can’t play for you! What do these things have in common? Not much really, but it seemed like hype sells and we wanted in on the action! Gaz likes certain things and Guy likes other certain things. Listen to find out who liked what and why.

MyMac Podcast 479 – But am I Paranoid Enough?

Even for us this was an unusual show. It didn’t seem lie it was going to be, but with the GMen you kinda get what you get. Our actual serious discussion is about conflicting tones in Apple’s description of whether or not they can or could or would be able to read or intercept (not the same thing) your texts in iMessage. Gaz’s Tips turns into a bit of a controversy over UK and US based keyboards and the People’s Pick does something, we’re just not exactly sure what it is.

MyMac Podcast 478: iOS is made for Business

Guy has his new iPhone 5S so everyone should be pleased that he’ll stop whining about it now. Gaz is VERY unhappy with iTunes and podcasts so we can rant about that. However he did make a framed picture so less unhappy. Not sure what the scale would be between happy or not at this point. Businesses in general seem to be pretty happy with iOS so that’s a good thing as lot’s of companies want to cater to that market. Gaz and Guy break it down a bit and say why in their opinion it’s the better platform than other mobile devices.

MyMac Podcast #477 – James Garner Would Be SO Proud

What does the English vs American way of saying deep fried thin potato slices, a 1950’s era western satire, the possession of current mobile phones, a conversation of potential new features in an operating system, and the regretted consumption of iced tea flavored vodka drinks have in common? This podcast

MyMac Podcast 476: They’re on their way, YAY!

So STILL no new iPhones for either GMan, but it’s looking like Gaz will get his first. Not that Guy is bitter or anything. They can’t remember what the bet was they made that if Guy loses, Gaz punches him in the nose so Guy lucks out there. A discussion into what the next iPad might be like and then it ALL goes wrong in a hilarious way.

MyMac Podcast 475: iOS 7, NOT quite a bit of heaven

It seems both GMen are getting new iPhones. Guy will be seeing his probably sooner than Gaz due to Apple’s unofficial US first policy. Gaz has a tale of woe about Apple’s AppleTV update which seems to have disappeared. They talk about some of their likes and dislikes about iOS 7 and if you like the after show stuff, you’ll LOVE this episode! Big thanks to all our G+ fans for all their contributions.

Balanced - Get More Out of Life

Balanced – Get More Out of Life – Review

For the last few weeks, I’ve been playing with a new iOS app called Balanced – Get more out of life. Balanced is good for reminding you to perform recurring tasks, but it is not a traditional “todo” list. You would not, for instance, put a reminder to “buy milk,” or do something that is time-sensitive into Balanced – it’s for recurring tasks that you want to accomplish. Balanced seeks to help you keep your life in balance, and rewards you for doing so with some motivational feedback.

MyMac Podcast #474 – 2 Phones – 1 OS

It’s almost all about the new phones. Guy doesn’t necessarily want one as his 4S is still working well, but ropes his son into the equation so he (sigh) has no choice. Gaz wants one now because of the better camera but ALSO wants a new iPad Mini that he has no choice about either because his family is always (sigh) on the full sized one. What are GMen to do except just bite the bullet and (sigh) go ahead and buy new iPhones. Because they really have no choice as was reasoned above.

MyMac Podcast 473: Brightening Everyone’s Day

The GMen are back and just before an Apple event that will no doubt delight and astound us all! Or maybe it’ll just be a phone or two. Anyway Gaz and Guy have a good time catching up on Guy’s Florida trip and his attempts as pitiful as they were at surfing. They look at some issues of the day and continuously get sidetracked away from what they started talking about. In other words, just as it ever was!

Seagate Central Shared Storage Device – Review

As reported on this site in some of my reviews over the last few years, I’m a huge fan of NAS (Network Attached Storage) technology. At present, I own a large RAID 5 NAS, with a slave unit to back up the first unit. Why? I have this much storage to support my media server. All my movies, TV shows, music, etc., are stored on my NAS, and its manufacturer keeps adding interesting new tools to keep their devices up to date, such as cloud support (the buzzword du jour), making it easy to connect to my NAS from anywhere in the world.

Powerocks Magic Cube Universal 6000mAh Extended Battery – Review

Our inventory of battery operated, USB charged, personal devices grows longer and longer. This situation translates into a greater likelihood of finding one of these running out of power at a critical moment. This could prevent you from keeping the kids entertained on a long trip or from getting that message from your spouse to pick up a gallon of milk on the way home from work.

MyMac Podcast #469: This podcast sponsored by…

Hoo HAH! A longer than usual podcast which is great for some of you and not great for others. Sorry or congratulations are in order for either one reason or the other. However it is just smack dab filled with Gaz and Guy shenanigans and tomfoolery. We talk about Google adding ads to their Map application in iOS because apparently that’s what they think people want and what Guy and Gaz are looking forward to in OS X Mavericks when Apple releases it.

TechFan #130 – Android vs Windows

Forget Apple, is Android the biggest problem for Windows? Tim and David go an hour discussing the future of Android and Windows. Will we see a serious push from Android on laptops, and what would that mean to the future of Windows? Do people still want Window laptops? Do people want Android laptops? We go behind the numbers, and look to the future with varying degrees of agreement and disagreement. A fast, opinionated show.

MyMac Podcast #468: General Mishmash

Gaz is off this week, so Guy roped inI mean got Paul Shadwell to volunteer to step up to the microphone. Lots of diverse topics including different ways to use your AppleTV, a bigger iPad, the iWork/iCloud beta, and the distinct possibility that Gazs Wombles song almost killed John Nemo! Also using a network attached storage device to create your own personal cloud and Hogs are motorcycles.

You’ve been Sherlocked by Mavericks – MyMac Podcast #262

OK despite the best of intentions this is another long show. However we don’t think you’ll be bored because Gaz and Guy spend a lot of time discussing really cool stuff and, well make jokes at each other’s expense. So yeah same stuff, just longer. They talk a bit about WWDC (TF) and how well they did (amazingly so) on their predictions. Also, what some of their favorite apps and utilities are going to do now that a good deal of their functionality is being built into OS X.

WWDCTF? – MyMac Podcast #461

Well WWDC is almost upon us and the internets is exploding with thoughts and ideas why someone OTHER than Apples executives should be creating new stuff. Naturally about the same number as Ivory Soaps purity (99.9%) will be wrong. Guy and Gaz would like to add to that number by talking about what they think will happen and the BEST part is you’ll know immediately just how wrong they were since this comes out after the WWDC Keynote. YAY! Also, hope you got some extra time, this is a loooong show.

iPhone: The Missing Manual, 6th Edition – Review

As an iPhone user I long ago got used to not having a manual with the iPhone. But I’m not your average user, and have had iPhones since the 3GS. But some people really need help with learning about their iPhones, and how to use them. So I was interested to see how the iPhone: The Missing Manual, 6th edition would succeed.

3 Years of the GMen – MyMac Podcast #449

Gaz and Guy have been at it for 3 years and no signs of slowing down. What is it about these two people that keep you coming back each week? Their charm? Their intelligence? Their ever so thoughtful insights into the world of Apple? Nah, must be the larfs. This week however, they have a discussion about the seriousness of keeping your Mac secure and what are some of the things to look out for.
