The GMen Sue Don McAllister – MyMac Podcast #344

Don is in BIG trouble with the GMen! He promised to be on but let his daughter’s 18th Birthday get in the way! BAD Don! We have a great show regardless with a good discussion about Lawyers, Guns, and Money but without the guns as it relates to recent events concerning Apple and Google. That’s followed up with a good laugh (from Guy anyway) about Microsoft taking over big in the mobile market at Apple’s expense.

Sibelius 6 from Avid

Sibelius 6 – Review

Sibelius is a music notation package. Although its output is music, it’s neither a sequencer nor a synthesizer nor Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). It’s a package that allows music composition as a score following the conventions of “engraving” music – in much the same way as a word processor allows a novel or play to be written as text. But Sibelius’ power extends far beyond that of even the most complex and sophisticated DTP software.

Bill Palmer from BeatWeek
MyMac Podcast #343

This one runs a bit long as in our longest show ever, but it’s chock full of great! Some terrific Twitter feedback that leads into a discussion about microphones and Application deletion software. Some email talking about why Reb WON’T buy an iPad, and Bill Palmer checks in and even stays for the third segment to talk about the upcoming 100th issue of BeatWeek Magazine! Guy gets his battery changed and annoys everyone with the theme song from the place that did it and lastly, Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference is coming but maybe no new hardware? Bummer.

Sennheiser CX 680i Headphones – Review

The first thing you notice about the 680i’s are the shark-like fins that protrude from each earbud. These fins look as if they would feel uncomfortable, but they do a great job of holding the earbuds in place, even while working out. You can wear them for several hours, and while you know you’re wearing headphones, you don’t feel any real discomfort. There’s not much that’s more annoying and potentially dangerous than an earbud falling out while running on a treadmill or an elliptical machine. You can feel secure that this won’t ever happen while wearing the 680i’s.

Star Walk for iPad – Review

Star Walk is an app that is a skywatcher’s dream. When you first open the app, the first thing you notice is the impressive quality of the graphics. There is a tremendous amount of detail and resolution that helps make your experience on an iPad so noteworthy. The opening screen provides a wealth of astronomical data that most stargazers can appreciate. The rising and setting times and elevations of the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn accompany the impressive graphics of each of these celestial bodies. Further information on the day length is also provided with the Sun’s data. The lunar phases from yesterday to two days from now are also presented in an impressive three-dimensional view.

Adobe Goes All Marsupial
MyMac Podcast #342

JollyJap gives the GMen a couple of weird stories (as our unofficial Twitter Correspondent! Congrats Paul…I think) and Tom Engels from the Explorer’s Podcast has a question or two about iTunes and GarageBand problems that is certain to induce nightmares for Guy. China seems to hate juveniles, and Android beating iOS in web tests goes down in a Blaze! Old timers remember Bungie’s Myth and now it seems to be back! Lastly, Adobe makes a Flash to HTML 5 conversion tool called Wallaby (but apparently doesn’t carry around their employees in a pouch). If Flash is going to win out over Apple’s objections, why do they need it?

IntelliScanner SOHO – Review

The IntelliScanner SOHO is advertised on the Apparent web site as: “the smart, ultra-portable barcode scanner built for small business,” but it would also work well in the home office or home management arena. Updating inventory and organizing a workplace is not an exciting job; IntelliScanner SOHO helps make it a little easier and a lot of fun.
