I Still Want An Apple Cell Phone

Admittedly, the new Moto ROKR cell phone, capable of holding only a hundred iTunes songs downloaded from your computer, is a decided disappointment. Playing those songs, with the headset provided and the clutzy interface for them, is not the elegant solution we are used to from Apple.

Just read the remarks in the iPod nano blog about the ROKR. Many of them are pretty insightful.

On the other hand, the Apple iPod nano is truly awesome, jewel-like and desirable as any iPed has ever been, and more so. Apple just keeps hitting home runs with these tiny devices, don’t they?

But there is still hope for those of us who want our iPods in a cell phone too. I see where Apple now owns the domain name, “iPhone.org” Typing that URL into your browser, you will be taken to Apple’s home page.

It just makes sense that Apple will someday have its own iPod cell phone. One that it designed and built, rather than leaning on someone else to do it for them. Pure speculation, I know. But we can dream, and now more than ever, it seems our dreams may be coming true in the near future.

After all, making and selling its own iPhone is the only way Apple will be able to continue to control all the devices that can access and download iTunes music and media. Let’s just all hope that it won’t be carrying Cingular service next time around.
