OK, in the VERY FIRST thing I wrote for mysite the oldmanlion.com for my eventual new book, I mentioned a story I wrote called the Maltese Cube and that I wasn’t particularly proud of it. Meanwhile back in the real world, I now have it in Apples iBook Store, in Amazons Kindle eBook Store, and now available as well as a paperback through Amazon. Karl Madden of the Mac & Forth podcast and I are rewriting it as an audio play that should be released at some point this year as a podcast. So what happened?

Don’t you just LOVE nonsensical phrases? Especially when it comes to tech. I mean, what could eggs and chicken and the order in which they appeared in nature have to do with technology outside of a certain Colonel’s automated deep fryer? Well my little chickadees, I’m here to tell you and it won’t be pretty.

The question of whether to switch from a PC to a Mac arises from time to time. I made the move to a Mac in 2007, but the decision would not be as easy today. My only experience with Microsoft software these days is at work, and that doesn’t make it straightforward to compare the Apple world with what a PC has to offer. Why is that?

You only see two lenses mounted on the combo frame when you first open your new olloclip package. Where are the other two? Unscrew carefully the outer lens elements and you will observe the two macro lenses exposed from behind the wide angle and fisheye. The company has done a masterful job of designing one unified lens rig that easily switches between its four different focal lengths, with lenses in place simultaneously on front and rear iPhone cameras.

If only#1. Heres a iPhone contradiction. One of the common complaints about the iPhone is that its battery doesnt allow heavy users to get through a long day without recharging. Yet with each iteration, Apple makes the phone thinner. I think there is room in Apples line-up to make, lets call it, an iPhone XL (Extended Life), or iPhone Pro. It would be a couple of millimeters thicker [gasp!] to accommodate a larger battery. Apple says that the iPhone 6 will yield up to 10 hours of internet use. How about an iPhone 6XL that will yield 16 hours? 20 hours? There are users who would gladly shell out additional cash for this and would not mind compromising a little extra thickness.

Recently, I was at my aunt and uncles house for a family gathering. They had purchased Disneys Frozen through FIOS OnDemand for the kids to watch. The kids loved it, but it made me consider the question of whether or not you should purchase video content through your cable provider. Why? Isn’t it the same as buying through iTunes or Amazon? I would argue it is not. Here’s why.

Myfundamentalissuewith all these wearables is that for more than really basic functionality (or less than that) you need it to be tied to a phone. Apple’s watch is no different in thatregard. So how can it be better? From the mind that said Apple should stop making Macs and let others clone and that they would NEVER release two different sized phones at the same time! So be warned.

With the wearable tech market on the rise, and now that Apple is definitely entering the market, there is one place that I can see the smartwatch being a real problem- the classroom. Teachers already have it hard fighting the battle against cell phone and texting in class (of course texting can happen on computers now too). The smartwatch will only make that battle even harder.
