Tired of having charging bricks blocking your power outlets? Most of us have a crowded spot in the kitchen or living room where we charge our iPhones and iPads. NewerTech has a solution, Power2U. This outlet replaces one of your power receptacles and provides two USB sockets in addition to the two standard USA 110V power outlets.

rePLAY Retractable Audio Cable – Review

If you have an audio or headphone jack in your car, this little retractable audio cable will do a nice job of simplifying your cable clutter. It’s a simple device: two 3.5mm audio plugs at either end of a thin, flat cable. The feature that makes this different from a plain cable is a spring-loaded spool in the middle. Pull both ends and the cable extends from a few inches to nearly three feet in length. There are stops along the way so this cable can be adjusted to whatever length fits your car and your needs.

Interesting, but Ultimately Flawed Audio Player – Review

Pioneer, a venerable name in home audio, has come up with a pair of interesting devices to better integrate the audio part of the internet and your own digital music library into your home audio system, the N-30 and N-50 Networked Audio Players. The Networked Audio Players are part of Pioneer’s Elite product line, noted for their excellent construction and superb audio quality. Pioneer foolishly loaned me an N-30 to evaluate. I say foolishly only because I seem to attract products for review that have fundamental flaws that cause me to write far too many negative reviews. Sadly, this is one of them.

Day Two: The Show Opens

Thursday started with the traditional MyMac.com breakfast at Mel’s Diner. From there, we walked to Moscone West and set up camp in the media room. Again, copious quantities of lukewarm Starbucks coffee and a selection of soft drinks were available.

Headphones Comparison: V-Moda Remix Remote vs. Arctic E461-BM

One of the greatest assets to any iOS device is the ability to listen to your favorite music, audiobooks, or your favorite apps. Most of us aren’t in the market for expensive earphones that can cost over $200, so what’s out there for those of us who want to find a balance between sound quality and cost? V-Moda and Arctic each have earphones in their lineups that try to reach such a balance. How do they compare?

My Friend, Steve Jobs

If we define a friend as someone who desires what is best for others and enriches the lives of those around him, then Steve Jobs was indeed my friend. As the news of his passing broke across the various media outlets, I was saddened as though I had lost someone close. I could not understand why I was feeling the impact of his passing so profoundly. I began to try and understand how I could feel this sense of loss at the passing of someone I had never really known on a personal level.

Toddy Smart Cloth
Review

Apple’s iOS products look sleek and just beg to be handled. Of course we as Apple fans do this, and as anyone who’s ever been to an Apple Store can attest, these products get dirty faster than Steve Balmer breaks into a sweat. As a biology teacher, I always cringe when I pick up an oily, fingerprint-laden handheld product because I know what sorts of microbes live on these devices for up to a month. Todd Gabel thought similarly when he came up with the Toddy Cloth, an antimicrobial screen cleaning cloth for any handheld device or laptop screen.

Golden Ears?

MyMac.com’s very own John Nemo dared me to blog by sending me a link to an article in the New York Times about someone who wanted to build a music server, one of the very highest possible quality. He wanted to rip his CDs at full, uncompressed resolution, and use a fairly high-end digital to analog converter in the playback stream in order to extract the very best from his music collection.
