rePLAY Retractable Audio Cable – Review

If you have an audio or headphone jack in your car, this little retractable audio cable will do a nice job of simplifying your cable clutter. It’s a simple device: two 3.5mm audio plugs at either end of a thin, flat cable. The feature that makes this different from a plain cable is a spring-loaded spool in the middle. Pull both ends and the cable extends from a few inches to nearly three feet in length. There are stops along the way so this cable can be adjusted to whatever length fits your car and your needs.

Universal Tablet Cup Holder Mount – Review

Bracketron’s tablet mount is a multi-part device that fits into your car’s cup holder. It does a nice job in spite of its complexity. In addition to holding your iPad, there are small compartments underneath for a mobile phone and some pens. Bear in mind that this is a review for iPad users even though the device is described as being universal.

Universal Tablet Headrest Mount – Review

Bracketron provides a clever way to securely mount an iPad (or other tablet) to the headrest of one of the forward seats in your car. A big screen HD TV in the back seat of a car? Well, pretty close! Most car DVD players have fairly small, low resolution screens. The 10 inch iPad retina screen seems gloriously huge and crisp by comparison. It’s certainly big enough for everyone in the back seat to see it clearly.

WiPNET Cable Ethernet Adapter Review

The folks at Wi3 have come up with some interesting technology, supported by a fairly new standard for home networks, called MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance), managed by a trade group that promotes the use of coaxial cables to connect consumer electronics and other networked devices. The WiPNET solution involves replacing your cable TV wall plates with devices that slip into the hole left by the wall plate.

Spider Black Widow Holster Kit – Review

I’ve seen them advertised in the photography magazines to which I subscribe. From the very first ad I thought it was a great idea. Camera straps can be so conspicuous and cumbersome. I’ve taken to wearing my camera/strap like a sling, around my neck, with my right arm through the strap and the  camera hanging down my right side just to keep it out of my way. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always work out for the best. Getting the camera up to eye level when it’s under your arm takes a bit of squiggling and juking to get that pesky arm out of the way.

Techsafe Cable Lock System – Review

It was a great relief to find that the Techsafe Cable Lock System performs exactly as advertised. The combination lock works with a clip that slips through the hinge that connects a laptop monitor to its keyboard. Because the flat side of the clip rests against the display, my initial thought was,  “Go carefully because if this isn’t in place correctly, you’re going to destroy the screen.” Some people like to say that worry is like a rocking chair because it doesn’t get you anywhere, but I that’s never stopped me. In this case, I went slowly but found my concerns were needless.

Headphones Comparison: V-Moda Remix Remote vs. Arctic E461-BM

One of the greatest assets to any iOS device is the ability to listen to your favorite music, audiobooks, or your favorite apps. There is nothing more annoying than trying to do so with earphones that simply ruin the experience with their shoddy qualities. Most of us aren’t in the market for expensive earphones that can cost over $200, so what’s out there for those of us who want to find a balance between sound quality and cost? V-Moda and Arctic each have earphones in their lineups that try to reach such a balance. How do they compare?
