Should you buy digital content from your cable provider?

Recently, I was at my aunt and uncles house for a family gathering. They had purchased Disneys Frozen through FIOS OnDemand for the kids to watch. The kids loved it, but it made me consider the question of whether or not you should purchase video content through your cable provider. Why? Isn’t it the same as buying through iTunes or Amazon? I would argue it is not. Here’s why.

Painter 2015 – Review

I have had the pleasure of reviewing the past few releases of Corel Painter for MyMac.com and the one thing I always applauded Corel for was the fact that they didn’t release a new version every year, but they waited about two years. This allowed the software to have more features due to the longer gap between releases. It also makes it easier on the wallet. However, with Painter 2015, Corel has strayed from that pattern and released a new version within about a year. When I read they had a new version I had to reread and check the website because I didn’t believe it. Is it still worthy of the high praise and your money? Read on.

Smartwatches and the Classroom

With the wearable tech market on the rise, and now that Apple is definitely entering the market, there is one place that I can see the smartwatch being a real problem- the classroom. Teachers already have it hard fighting the battle against cell phone and texting in class (of course texting can happen on computers now too). The smartwatch will only make that battle even harder.

“I don’t buy apps”

That’s the phrase I am hearing more and more from people when discussing apps on the iPad. I bring up a cool app that costs a couple of dollars and the person immediately states the above sentence. It seems as if buying apps is becoming more and more of the thing not to do. It is as if buying apps is a sin. Why buy apps when there are hundreds of free ones?

StarTech.com Wireless Travel Router for iPad – Review

Have you ever been in a hotel that only had a wired connection for the Internet? Maybe the hotel had Wi-Fi , but only the wired connection was free? Believe it or not, there are still hotels and resorts that are like this. I recently took a trip to such a resort where the only free Wi-Fi was in the lobby. You either had to pay for Wi-Fiby the day or use a wired connection in your room.

iPad Animation – iBook Review

At first glance iPad Animation How to Make Stop Motion Movies On The iPad with iStopMotion, GarageBand, and iMove by Craig Lauridsen looks like a giant advertisement or manual for the iPad app iStopMotion by Boinx Software. However, as you get further into the book it is much more. It is a great book on stop motion animation that has tips and techniques that can be used with any software, even though iStopMotion is the software used and explained in the book.

I have been a long time user of the Wacom drawing tablet line. I have been using the tablets all the way back to the Graphires and they have alway worked great. In the past there were two lines of tablets. Graphire, and most recently Bamboo, for the consumers/hobbyists, while the Intuos line was the line targeted at the pro market.

Corel Painter X3 – Review

About every two years Corel releases a new version of Painter, their fantastic natural media program for artists. I’ve been fortunate enough to review the last few releases and each time I have been happy to say the wait was worth it. Once again Corel has released a new version of Painter- X3, and I once again I can say the wait was worth it. I’m also happy to say they have decided to stay away from the subscription bandwagon for this release.

The Animator’s Survival Kit for iPad – Review

For as long as I can remember I have been amazed by animation. Growing up I would read any animation book I could find, watch every Disney movie released in theaters. I even did an animation themed independent study in college where I made my own animated cartoon (by hand-no computers).

Flame Painter – Review

When I first saw Flame Painter by Escape Motions I didn’t know what to make of it. Is it a paint program? Is it an effects program? Well, after playing with it for several weeks I’m leaning towards more of an effects program, although there are some fantastic examples of it as a paint program on the company website.
