A smattering of stuff

Anyone who read my last post might have noted the pics of the desk weren’t all they could be. That’s because I took them with the canon gl2. The GL2 is great video camera but not much of a photo taker. Usually I would have used my digital camera, an olympus 2500l. It was a great camera, I loved the thing. The camera took fantastic pictures, had plenty of controls and featured an aspherical lens. Side note: aspherical lenses are inherently more difficult to manufacture than a spherical lenses. This is due to the fact that if you get too roughly spherical surfaces and rub them one inside the other (think a regular sized marble being polished in a hollowed out cat’s eye marble) they tend to get more spherical. So the aspherical lens is really going the extra mile. (I know that bit of trivia thanks to Dr. Alvin J. Sanders. Excellent teacher. “Going to Halls boys?”)

Through no fault of my own the camera bit the dust. I sent it into Olympus for repair but they wanted $230 bucks to fix it. That’s more than I paid for the thing. So I opted to purchase a Canon A70. Todd has one and I was impressed when I used it. Plus it was thirty bucks cheaper than getting the 2500L repaired. I found better values on HP cameras but just how many megapixels do I need (3×5 prints max)? Plus HP cameras have had some negative reviews. It really drove home the point that a bad review can kill ya. And not just for one product, it can hurt a brand. I suspect a strong review helps even more.

Time for links, I’ve got a lot owing to my self imposed ban.

For Bailey:
500 Miles spoof. Hey, I love beer.

This link requires some explanation. I remember the days when Mtv played music videos. I’d been sitting around gettin all crotchety wondering why Mtv didn’t play music videos. Then I saw this. That’s one awful…very awful…video. On the bright side the crane, if done properly, has no defense.

I suppose that’s enough subterfuge for now. The point was to get Tim to stop reading, cause Tim doesn’t like porn links. Let me stop and reflect on craftiness for a moment. Today my son, twenty months old, grabbed a raw potato out of the fridge, He hid it in the couch cushions. “Why” wondered I “would a kid want a potato and then hide it?” I became distracted and went to the master bedroom. Nathaniel (the kid) siezed the oppurtunity and opened the silverware drawer, grabbed a knife and ran off (he only has access to the dinner, unsharp kind of knife). With the knife in hand he retrieved the potato, went to his room and shut the door, and began trying to cut the potato up. Why? because he was trying to get away with something. I’m doing the same thing.

Early porn Sure the web is mainly porn (and e-mail is mainly a exercise in creative spelling of the name “viagra”) but there was porn before the internet. This video chronicles some of the earliest pornography.

Cop porn
This comes via Beth Lock. a calendar of cops nude. Who knew there were so many attractive law officers? I’ve only looked at the females but there are naked guys too. I think it’s a charity deal so buy one of the calendars, you get 12 pictures of nifty looking naked people AND you’re helping a worthy cause.

Don’t tell Tim about the porn.

cks/BL tridiot rating: the new desk says 103.56% and I agree.
