InstantInit 1.0.2 – Review

InstantInit 1.0.2

I am impressed. And I do not say that lightly! InstantInit 1.0.2 is awesome.
What does it do? It will Initialize a disk in 2 SECONDS! You read that correctly, 2 seconds. (O.K., one disk I did took four.) Wow. Impressive, eh?
Now, let me tell you a few things first before you start running out looking for it.

First of all, it is shareware, and it has a 15 day trial period. After 15 days, it does not work anymore. So pay your shareware fee if you want it. Cost is only $10.00.

Next, it has some problems. What, I don’t know, as I never had anything bad happen to me while I used it. However, a few people, including my sometime software reviewer, Pam Wilson, has told me it caused lock ups or freezes during operation. This did not happen to me, however, but I trust those who told me about this 100%. So there are some problems with this program. And even though, as I said, it seemed to work great for me, I am holding off paying for it until a newer version comes out with some bug fixes, which it obviously needs.

All that aside, I had a lot of fun wit it during the first fifteen days! I must have had ten America Online software disk laying about, that I got from various magazines, with the intention of erasing and reusing. (Note to anyone looking to get rid of all those AOL software disk’s, send them to me!) So, to test out InstantInit, I loaded it up, double clicked it, and started inserting disks. About a minute later, all ten AOL disks were now empty and waiting for new stickers! (Here’s a tip to get new stickers; call the company and tell them your box of blank disk’s did not have any! They will send you TONS of the things! I bought a box of thirty disks, and it had only ten stickers. A week later, I had a BOX FULL! Hey, thanks Maxell!)

So, should you now run out and find InstantInit? Sure, give it a try. It is a application, not a Control or extension devise, thus the chance for a crash should be lower. But I know people who have had trouble with it, so please keep that in mind.
