The Nyne Mini Bluetooth Speaker – Review

The first thing that I noticed about the Nyne Mini is the quality of its packaging. Unboxing it is a very Apple-like experience, with the way the lid pulls off very slowly as if it’s held in place by a vacuum. It struck me that a company that cares that much about its products’ packaging is very likely paying attention to detail in all aspects of their product lines.

Canvas Smart Desk for iPad Pro – Review

iSkelter has just introduced a lapdesk for the new iPad Pro that performs like a tray. Take a dinner plate to the living room sofa and you have to be careful since balancing it is risky. Put that plate on a tray and you immediately feel more secure and comfortable.

MyMac Podcast 586: Don’t keep the Keeper

So the holidays are upon us and how better to celebrate than an extra long podcast with crackly bits courtesy probably from Skype! Even though we said we wouldn’t. Fortunately we can blame Karl Madden from the Mac and Forth podcast who joined the GMen this week. They talk about Star Wars (of course) that Karl and Gaz has seen and Guy hasn’t. Also some stuff about malware and programs that might seem legit but probably aren’t. Ho-ho-ho!

Aurora HDR – Review

When digital High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography effects first appeared, the results often looked over-processed. With MacPhun’s new Aurora HDR you can make impressive images that don’t have that telltale HDR look. Aurora HDR is a Mac-only app specifically developed to produce these images. It’s a one-trick pony, but what a pony!

Montar Universal Car Mount – Review

My real world job involves a fair amount of driving that often requires my iPhone acting as a Sat Nav or GPS. Whilst you can hear instructions, it’s always handy to safely look at what’s coming up by glancing at the Sat Nav Map. When the Montar Universal Car Mount came up for review I was keen to give it a test and set it up in my car as my daily companion.

I listen to podcasts when Im working out at the gym. I have a pair of earphones that I really like; however, the cord is always getting in the way. Dragon Anywhere for iOS – Review

Since the release of IBM’s ViaVoice (bonus points to you who know what I’m on about) I have been following the progress of speech recognition over recent years. I’ve been a long time user of Dragon Dictate from Nuance and I use voice recognition on my Mac, courtesy of Dragon Dictate 5, on a daily basis.

Capture One Pro 9 – Review

Its an impressive alternative to Apple’s own Aperture, which is no longer being developed and – although the Digital Asset Management system of choice for many – is not guaranteed to work on unspecified future operating systems. Version 9 of Capture One Pro was released this month. Its every bit as good as its predecessor and remains the preferred alternative to Aperture over Adobe’s Lightroom.

MyMac Podcast 585: WE ARE GMEN

Well we finally get the whole 300th episode since Guy and Gaz took over blah, blah, blah so no more about that. Just in time to start hyping the 600th episode of the podcast so, yeah. Guy gets a new mixer, but don’t get too used to it, Gaz gets a new iMac, you can get used to that, Guy finally gets his iPad Pro Unless it’s just some clever mirage, but its Guy so he wouldn’t admit it anyway. The GMen eventually get around to 300, in a fashion, and lots of the stuff you listen to this show for. We apologize in advance.

UpStanding Desk – Review

To Sit or not to sit… To Stand or not to stand… That is the question. It has been a normal daily routine going back to before typewriters and through the computer age for one to sit at a desk to work or to relax and read email or surf the web. In the past few years, the logic of sitting down at a desk has come into review as to the impact upon the users body and what happens if one sits down all the time. University studies had shown that extended sitting was having a negative impact upon the human body with a possible increase in coronary heart disease and other health problems from a lack of movement. Yet there was also the possibility of negative impact from extended standing.

MindShift Gear BackLight 26L Photo Backpack – Review

bag exterior

The $250 MindShift BackLight 26L (the 26L stands for 26 liters of internal volume) is a medium-sized backpack designed for the outdoors photographer but can be very much at home with anyone who wants to carry a lot of photo gear on their back in a handsomely designed bag. It comes in both green and graphite colors; I chose to review the graphite colored one. The first thing I noticed is how light the MindShift BackLight 26L feels (just around 4lbs/1.8kg). I don’t like heavy camera bags for comfort reasons, and this case does not add much more weight to my already heavy camera kit.
