Talked to a former Bush supporter on the phone today and, predictably, the subject turned to politics. While he opined that the current President positively sucked he didn’t feel a whole lotta love for Kerry. The pebble can smell what the Rock is cooking, has there been a worse candidate than Kerry? C’mon with gas prices through the roof, a slowly recovering economy, the debacle in Iraq, the Director of the CIA, George Tenet, resigning (for personal reasons, cause personally speaking, he was doing a crappy job) it would seem as though Kerry should be running at with a huge lead in the polls. He’s not.
Nope, Kerry is Al Gore on Sominex. Actually that’s not quie right. Al Gore is Kerry on a crack and meth cocktail. Kerry is just that boring, that uninspiring. I think everyone feels it, today on the drive home I passed a Range Rover with a Kerry bumper sticker. It was in a side window affixed with scotch tape. It was as though the driver instinctively knew that there was no reason to solidly set the bumper sticker because that would take commitment. All Kerry rated was an easily removed tape job.
My friend posited the reason that he no longer supported Bush was because of the lies. The lies about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction, the lies about going in for humanitarian reasons. As far as I know those weren’t lies, I think the Pres truly believed those things, hell everybody thought Iraq had huge piles of anthrax. Why not? sometimes those CD cut outs are too good of a deal to pass up. I don’t think his beef with President Bush really has to do with the supposed lies. I don’t think people actually care how much a president lies. President Clinton, who I count as a pretty decent President, was some kind of master liar. He could look straight at you and tell you you weren’t there. He’d get that thumb deal going and you’d buy into it. “I don’t see you, you’re not here. I wish you were here. I feel your pain because you’re not here. I did not see you here…Monica Lewinsky” and Ronald Reagan was a classic liar, lie after lie after lie. But they were feel good, sound good lies. Either way those guys were leaders, they inspired confidence.
Nope what my friend was peeved about was the continual screw ups. One plan doesn’t go well and you can live with that. Yet with President Bush it seems as though everything he tries goes awry. After a time you start thinking “Hey, this isn’t just an isolated letdown, I need a better manager” The problem is that when you look for the “better manager” you see Kerry. As far as I can tell Kerry is like the Uncle on Thanksgiving. Not the drunk Uncle, or the gorged uncle. Nope Kerry is the quiet uncle who falls asleep on the couch.
Well that’s way too much political stuff and my opinion on these matters is fairly worthless. I lied, it’s absolutely worthless. My opinion aside this is the strongest endorsement of Kerry I’ve seen
Well, I’ve bored you aplenty. How about some decent links?
