Who the heck is this???

Greetings all. For those that don’t know me (that would be darn near everyone), my name is Guy Serle and I have been invited by Tim, our esteemed leader (Stand up Tim, so we can all get a good look!), to post my musings and various random thoughts to this that is known as MyMac.com. It took me awhile to figure out just what it was that drew me here time and time again. I mean, there are countless other sites that people can go to for Macintosh and Apple-centric information and lord knows I have been to quite a few. It wasn’t the MyMac reviews. Not to say that they aren’t well done, because they are. I appreciate a well-turned review and can usually tell by the way the person is writing whether or not he really dug a product or if he’s just blowing smoke. No smokers found on MyMac in the reviews section. So what was it that got me hooked? And then it hit me.

It was a Mac site without the technical pretentiousness of some of the others. You see, I discovered MyMac quite by accident, while reading some Mac related stuff out there on the web and immediately fell in love with the free-style commentary. At first, I was horrified! Where were the product announcements that I had already seen at every other site! Where were the rumors of upcoming releases that were always wrong! Where were the web links to other pages that no longer worked! It just didn’t seem..um..dignified. I mean, here were people talking about things that had nothing to do with Macs and my (according to my wife) unhealthy obsession with all things Apple! They talked about…life. They talked about politics, and television, and growing plants in inhospitable places. They talked about whether Roger Maris could hit a curveball thrown by a left-handed pitcher. Well, no, they didn’t really talk about Roger Maris, but they COULD have!

It started simple enough. I posted a reply to some of the blogs, first anonymously, then with my own name. Tim and I got into a very surreal conversation back and forth about whether or not anyone actually had an original copy of GarageBand in order to compete in the song contest (He had over 100 entries so you can guess who won that debate). He invited me to write and after some long period of soul-searching (At LEAST 20 seconds worth), I agreed. So here I am. I don’t know how often I will be able to contribute. I’m hoping at least three times a week, but time can be a precious commodity.

Oddly enough, I started this to tell you something about myself. For those who have stuck around long enough, thank you for your patience. AHEM hem. I am a white, somewhat failed Christian male (the failing is the Christian part, I’m all man baby!), in servitude to the Federal Government in the Washington D.C. area. I’m 43 years old and have been married for the last, almost 12 years to a wonderful woman who has blessed me with two sons. I take Tae Kwon Do three nights a week that seems to leave me somewhat crippled afterwards all in the name of “Getting some good exercise”. I actually grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which accounts for many of the blonde moments I have on a daily basis. My father was a die-hard Democrat and my mother was a hard-nosed Republican and I listened to their political arguments in the 1960s with no small amount of confusion. This probably explains why I do not claim any preference to one of the major parties as I have come to the conclusion that they are both fundamentally flawed. I have been using Macs since 1987, though my first experiences with Apple was a friends Apple II and my brother-in-law’s Lisa. I won’t promise to lower your taxes and you cannot seriously expect me to always be lucid. I think that about says it all.
