“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me”.
F. Scott Fitzgerald.
“Greed is alright….Greed is Healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself”.
Ivan F. Boesky, in a commencment address at Berkeley, CA, May 18, 1986
Those of you who live in other parts of the country, the southwest for example, will not believe what you are about to read, but it is fact. Here goes.
One of the wealthiest areas of the city of Boston is Beacon hill. Old, blue blood money resides here. A certain presidential candidate lives in a six million dollar town house on Louisberg Square. Here, the young rich mix with the old rich. How rich is it? Well, it seems that a garage on Brimmer street will sell you a condominium parking space for the price of one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. Yes, that’s right, $160,000.00.
I read this in today’s globe today, and WCVB tv just did a news report on it.
Of course, at the moment, the management of the Brimmer st. garage can’t sell you a space, because they are full. In fact, it is rare that they have any spaces to sell.
Think about this, just for a moment. One hundred and sixty thousand one dollar bills. That is a lot of paper, isn’t it? Of course, it’s all indoors, heated, and you car will be well cared for. They’ll even put gas in it for you, at the price of $2.20 per gallon. But who cares about that, right?
Okay, so this is America. Some folks are rich, some aren’t, that’s just the way it is right? Did I mention that people pay the full price for these car condos, in cash?
So, do you think the folks who pay $160,000.00 for a parking space are concerned about such things as unemployment, health insurance, and the state of public schools?
