Upgrade Revisited

Today I got an e-mail announcing OWC’s new upgrades and pricing. I had forgotten about the OWC upgrade I had reviewed earlier. (Processor upgrades are something you don’t think about after you get accustomed to the speed boost.) Now that I’ve had the upgrade for sometime I realize it saved me several thousand dollars. Before the upgrade I was seriously considering splurging on a dual proc G5, hey I didn’t need the power but sometimes you gotta go top end.

An odd thing happened after I installed the upgrade, my lust for a new G5 slowly diminished. The increase in speed made so much of a difference I didn’t feel any pressing need for a new box. A G5 remained(s) a definite “must” down the road but the timeframe keeps getting pushed back. iBook replacement has leapfrogged the tower replacement (I guess a new video card for the G4 is really the top priority, but that’s minor stuff) so for the forseeable future I’m very happy with the upgraded G4.

The way I can really tell that OWC killed my G5 craving is by my response to my wife when she asked what big ticket items I wanted in case a sweet bonus check came along. I said a TABLE SAW.

One other thing I just noticed: the upgrade has changed my computing habits. I used to work almost exclusively on the 600Mhz iBook. After installing the upgrade any time I’ve got something serious to do: it’s trip to the to G4.

TV pick o the night Chappelles Show Dave absolutely slaughters me.

Book to Review (I wonder if Nemo can hook me up with a review copy) Bhutan Hey, it’s a six by four FOOT book, wonder if it’ll come FedEx.
