Time for new computer speakers

I always like to put a bit of text before the linky goodness, that way there’s a little pain for folks to endure until they reach the reward section of the blog. So here’s the daily dose of doldrums:

I’m going to have to break down and buy some new computer speakers. My speakers are sounding steadily worse and I’ve got no idea why. I suppose the things just wearing out for whatever reason but I’m trying to hold out. See my plans involve buying a nice shiny PowerMac G5 at some point (more on this anon). As any aficionado of all things unneeded knows the PowerMacs feature an optical audio deal. So, if I intend to get a PowerMac, I should really buy some speakers that can take advantage of optical audio stuff. I could pick some fully compatible speakers up and use them with my current computer (cause most support both optical coolness and analog bustedness) and then just slide them over to the PowerMac when I get around to buying one. Which seems to sense make on the surface but is actually the worst reasoning this side of dieting with beer.

Why does my reasoning blow? Because it bears little resemblance to reality. To wit:
A) I couldn’t tell the difference between optical sound and analog sound with Mozart’s ears.
B) I don’t need a new computer, the G4 does just about everything I want in a pleasingly speedy manner.
C) If I bought the friggin speakers it would just push me back that much farther in saving for a new machine.
D) I haven’t got around to saving for a new machine anyway.
E) Even if I did have plenty -o- scratch for a new computer I’d probably spend it on something completely different, like basement flooring.

So now the answer is easy, just head out and buy some new analog speakers. Perfectly sensible. And I agree it is completely logical. But see I’ve been wanting a PowerMac G5 and they have this optical audio….

So basically my current computing enjoyment is being hampered by something I’m not likely to actually buy. Even if I did buy a PowerMac I couldn’t tell the difference, and even if I could tell the difference I couldn’t afford the speakers anyway. So this is my plan: Sometime in the next week I am going to force myself to go to CompUSA and buy a new freaking set of speakers. Or maybe not, see I’m planning on……

What? What am I planning on? I’m planning on sharing:

Nice Art!

Something tells me this book is going to have some of the greatest articles ever written. Actually I’ve only seen three of the pieces but they were EPIC. Anyway the Book:
iPod and iTunes Hacks.

This is where I usually link my latest article at AppleMatters. Today I made a mistake. Well actually I made the mistake yesterday but the ramifications are slamming home today. I wrote a bit on G-mail wherein I offered to send G-mail invites out. This turned out to be a serious error in judgment:

And that was just during the time I went out to dinner. Interesting, well over a hundred requests and not a single comment. In any event I guess I’m looking like a big old doofus right now. I’ve got a story for Tim about this article, things could have been much, much worse.
