Just a quick note to any Trek fan among the regulars here at MyMac. The good folks at CowCreek films will be releasing the second of what I hope will be many episodes of Star Trek: New Voyages.
If you missed my previous blog about these guys (and a few others doing the same), look it up. Or you can just go to www.newvoyages.com tomorrow (The 8th of October) and see what the fuss is all about.
I saw the first episode almost by accident after reading about their escapades on some other site whose name I don’t remember. While it had its rough spots, it was a fine freshman effort. According to sources within CowCreek, there were over 6 million downloads of “Come What May” (Obviously the name of the first episode).
I enjoyed it enough to make a donation to CowCreek films and received a DVD with the episode on it. They can not actually CHARGE you money for the DVD as this would violate some kind of copyright law with Paramount. So you make a DONATION, and they give you free of charge the DVD that JUST HAPPENS to have the episode on it (Nudge nudge wink wink). The DVD also included outtakes, bloopers, interviews with the principles, and my favorite; the episode as it would have been seen on most TVs in 1969 in glorious black and white!
The new episode is titled; “In Harm’s Way”. The episode itself seems to deal with all kinds of troubles. In the trailers I saw what looked like Doomsday devices (if you have to ask yadda yadda), the Gateway, Klingons, planets blowing up, human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together, MASS HYSTERIA! According to things I read in their forums, there were over 200 special effects shots. YOW!
Anyway, if you are the least bit interested in Star Trek, head over to newvoyages.com/news.html and follow the links to download the second episode tomorrow.
Um…actually wait a bit. I’m going to be downloading it myself and I was here first!
Update 10-8-04
I downloaded the episode and watched it this morning. An incredible effort! Much better than the first one. Loads of action. Suprise guest stars from the original series. Fantastic special effects. I must admit that I’m a bit confused about the ending. I’ll have to watch again (and again!) to try to answer some of the questions I have. No, I won’t say what those questions are since I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
Make sure you have MS Windows Media Player in order to watch it. While I wish it was available in QuickTime, it’s worth having a little MS software to see this. As I understand it, there will eventually be a QT version to download as well. Also, if you don’t have a broadband connection, you might want to wait until DVDs are available. This is a BIG download.
Update (Again)
I have been informed by the powers that be that a DVD of this will NOT be available. If you want to see it, you’ll need to do the download thing or have someone do it for you. Preferably someone with broadband.
