Roger’s Rough and Ready (p)Rognostications

– or, macWorld Musings

No rumors here. Only (p)rRognostications, which are essentially gotten by staring into an iMac screen that has been turned off for a long time – admittedly a rare thing.

(Sheesh, Rog, its not even Thanksgiving yet !)

It’s all Apple’s fault. I read what some of their people said in public recently, and it got the ol’ mental juices flowin’ you see.

First of all, Apple has said a few months ago that their new Intel Inside Macs will come next Summer. But I am thinking there has to be something as good at January’s MacWorld that is as good as last year’s. (Remember the Mac mini? The iPod Shuffle?)

So? What will turn up at MacWorld in less than three months from now?

PowerBooks, first of all? Yeah, I know Apple just upgraded these with IBM chips, giving them a modest speed bump. Doesn’t matter. Apple has never kept to some kind of lenghtly and monotonous upgrade schedule, have they? Fact is, (and this is the part I zoned in on) Apple said that their Intel test Macs were up and running, and faster that their IBM siblings.

It would be just like Apple to beat their own predictions and release their Intel Macs early, like this January?

So ol’ hopeful me is ‘expecting’ some new Intel PowerBooks at the next MacWorld – some Aluminum-bodied 15 inchers, 17 inchers, and maybe a 20 incher ! Wowser ! Christmas in january? (Its OK for Apple to ship them later, say, in February.)

Maybe too, an Intel Mac mini? (Huh, Apple? Huh? Huh?)

I am also dreaming of a new iBook – a 13 incher in a wide screen format. Why not? If I gonna dream, why be small about it?

Personally, I am still hopeful for that 9 incher mini iBook with a full-sized keyset using fewer keys, and no SuperDrive – but I’m not expecting it – I’m really dreaming here, wishing I had Apple’s ear for a few minutes.

I believe the new PowerBooks and iBooks should be thinner too, reminding people of the new skinny iPods, and have built-in iSight cameras, as well as the fastest, most energy-efficient Intel chips around.

What greater incentive for all them poor Win-duh-ows users to switch?

So? What do you think will be showing up at the next MacWorld?

Are you gonna show up there?

Roger the Prognosticator
