Today I was tempted to give my take on the Presidential debates. I was going to call the first one for Kerry and the other two ties. Then I was also going to wonder why Kerry went with the lesbian Mary Cheney thing. I was going to do all that (with a lot more opinion) but everyone else is doing all that and it invariably ends up in an unpleasant shouting match. So I will leave my take as follows: I found the debates more enlightening than usual.
Now it is time to eat a little Crow (insert Lance Armstrong joke here). Early on in the race I opined that this year was a no contest, I said Bush was an easy winner. I was (obviously) wrong. Kerry is coming on much stronger than I anticipated and turning the entire thing into a very interesting horse race. Now, let me state something as clearly as possible: I still haven’t made up my mind and I don’t find either candidate all that palatable but I feel a little better about both of them after watching the debates.
Of course debates don’t tell the whole story. For example, I thought the President talked a pretty good game at times. If I look at his record I see that it is nearly the exact opposite of what I would like to see. (A big personal issue for me is paying off the entire national debt, we’re not exactly headed in that direction). I also don’t see anything in Kerry’s record that would inspire confidence. Though it was a nice exercise in sophistry.
This is where it becomes tricky. I have unique views (as do most people, call me a special interest group) the things I think are really important (the debt, preservation of rights, minimal impediments to starting a business, the abolition of the New York Yankees) aren’t really front and center for either party. So I’m stuck, who do I vote for when both options seem, to me anyway, basically the same? Of course it doesn’t really matter whom I vote for, I live in Tennessee so I could vote Richard Simmons and it would have zero impact (thanks electoral college). Yet it is a decision I take seriously and a duty I feel I must fulfill.
I suppose when it comes right down to it I’ll vote for whomever I think will do the best things for the country rather than who will do the best things for me. Still a tough call.
Was that political stuff by me yet again? Indeed it was. You have my sincerest apologies. I can’t help it, I like to write. Before I get to links and diversions a note to Tim: Got the speakers, I’ll send the review in this weekend. Hey, saves me from sending an e-mail.
I’d like to do a little alliteration here, or at least blame Nate for not doing it but no one has sent in any links of late. Even Todd, my supposed best pal, hasn’t come through. That means there is no one to elevate to the alliteration hall of fame. Which is sad, because as past inductees can tell you a spot in the AHoF usually results in a ten percent salary bump. Bailey rakes in millions per year (of course that’s Canadien, so it’s really like sixty Grr US).
Long Bets
I’d wager that 25 years from now Bigfoot will remain undiscovered and people will still debate the Patterson Film Cause people are tools and all.

Finally, if you just want more debates why not watch wrestlers go at it (unfortunately they just talk):

And that is all I’ve got.
