Quantum Mechanics…and Bad Songs

Back when I was at UT I had a professor who would, when talking about quantum mechanics, cite the scanner at a grocery store. Ya see the scanner at your local grocery store (all lasers for that matter) work off quantum mechanical principles. At the time that was about the only everyday thing that you could relate to QM. That may be changing. Neat.

I suppose at this point I should also point out that QM destroys the comforting notion of causality. Hey, you get what you pay for. On the other hand things are still pretty predictable.

For instance VH1 having another top 100 list. I read an article somewhere today that VH1 was going to have a list of the the worst songs….ever. What? VH1 is doing a show with a list??? What are the chances? I mean you expect the list stuff in The Book of Lists but VH1 counting down something? It caught me completely from left field. Next thing you know they’ll be doing videos with bits of trivia popping up. Ah, VH1 the last bastion of original programming.

The article revealed that the worst song ever was (drumroll….drumroll…drumroll) “We Built this City” by Starship. Which I can see, hey that song sucked. But what about every single Lee Greenwood song, or all of country music? Come on, if Lee Greenwood was in my house and started belting out tunes the floors would be really clean cause he sucks more than an industrial hoover.

That’s just mindless ramblings, much like the Pres’ speeches, what songs are truly awful? Songs that actually got airplay? Hey, I’ve got a leg up, I grew up in the musical nadir that was the eighties. My top choices:

Mickey by Tony Basil
How bad was this song? Bad enough to make an icepick look like a relief valve.

Mr Roboto by Styx
You’ve heard it, you felt the pain, enough said

Cum On Feel The Noize by Quiet Riot
The only thing worse than this song is Dubrows haircut. Join the ninties man. (the aughts will take awhile longer)

Bike by Pink Floyd
At one time in my life I thought it would be great to have every Pink Floyd album. I decided to go in chronological order and bought Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Bike was on it. All I can say is: we we we EEE EEE EEE over and over.

Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band
horrible, horrible

That’s it for me. Every time I list a new song it gets stuck in my head and it’s very painful.

TV PICK: Prizzi’s Honor Excellent stuff. On the WE channel at 8 eastern.

CKS/BL tridiot rating: the Sinclair started smoking and giving off weird smells. I calculated the score by hand: 129%
