Regardless of who you voted for, or for what ballot measures you cast your vote for, one thing is clear. We are a continuing nation – a new nation, and one people.
Where young democracies in other parts of the world witness their elections mixed with blood and terror, the United States of America remains united, and at peace. I cannot tell you how precious all this is.
This electorial process of ours ended this morning with a call to George Bush from John Kerry. It was cordial, gracious and concilitory, on both sides.
Our election ended, not with guns and bombs, nor even armies of lawyers and pundits. It ended as it should, like someone quietly blowing out a candle.
I am so proud of my country, and of its people right now. We have survived one of the most virtolic and politic elections ever – since the last one we had, four years ago.
America lives on.
May the days ahead give us all time to heal wounds and rebuild bridges – and perhaps repair friendships.
But more than this, I would say to you, keep on fighting for what you believe in, and never give up on the causes that you believe are worthy of your time and your love.
Remember that our freedom means much more than just some man in the White House, or some political party in power.
There are still a lot of people who want to curtail our freedoms, both abroad and in this country. Some of them here are in big business, and some of them are in Congress.
Continue to fight against things like the DRM and the RIAA, and against the encroachment of our personal liberties and our freedom of speech.
Continue to fight for the environment, and for our planet’s endangered species.
Continue to fight for those who have little or no voice in how things are done, whoever they are, or wherever they live.
And God bless America!
