Nemo’s “List of Tens”

1. Ten MINUTES is all I allow when wrestling with a software conflict or glitch. Colleagues David Weeks and Owen Rubin are more TENacious, and often more successful, but if I can’t solve it in 10 minutes I know to ask for help.

2. Ten CLICKS should be enough to complete any basic activity on a web site. If I’m clicking and scrolling and getting nowhere, the site loses me.

3. Ten BOOKS on your shelf will cover most if not all the tutoring and reference material you need to be a well-informed Macintosher. I have many dozens of books, but I can easily point to the ten I use most frequently.

4. Ten EMAIL CORRESPONDENTS will probably account for close to 90 percent of your email activity. Be a thoughtful writer and reader, and your e-pals will value your communications.

5. Ten APPLICATIONS are used more than the other 40 or 50 on your hard drive, so keep them updated and legal.

6. Ten WEB SITES will be frequented by each of us more than the other hundred zillion, but the sands are constantly shifting, and this year’s group will not be the same as next year’s bunch.

7. Ten PERCENT of the world (or more!) uses Macintosh for productivity and entertainment, and this number will rise as we approach the year 2010.

8. Ten YEARS of using a Macintosh will be my anniversary this September, and it’s been a blast. Writing for MyMac.com and attending Macworld San Francisco Expo and teaching for Tucson Macintosh Users Group and tutoring my individual and group classes has become a way of life.

9. Ten OPERATING SYSTEMS brings us to OS X Panther 10.3, which I use and embrace as the most productive, stable, expansive OS of all time.

10. Ten YEARS of continuous publication for MyMac.com is a tribute to all our writers, readers, advertisers, and especially to our talented publisher, Tim Robertson.
