COOL! Apple Computer today announced new upgrades for their top of the line PowerBooks and PowerMacs. Annoucement was made at the Photo Plus Expo.
For the PowerBooks, 15inch gets new display 1440 x 960 resolution; – 17inch 1680 x 1050. Both 46% brighter screens. Both 22% better battery life. Both have SuperDrive DVD burners standard. Apple Cinema HD support built-in. Prices: 12inch $1,500, the 15inch $2,000, 17inch for $2,500. All available now.
Powermacs: L2 cache 1MB. Added dual-core support with dual velocity engines. IBM Chips in dual-core Power Macs, 16GB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Up to 1TB of internal storage. Come with PCI-Express. With four nVidia cards and Quadro FX 4500. Each video cards supports 30-inch Cinema Display, adding up to four monitors. No price changes.
Top of the line: Power Mac G5 Quad. Four operating cores, 76.6 gigaflops. Available November, $3300.
Cinema Displays: 23inch $1299. 30inch $2499.
Software: New post-production tool for photographers called Aperture. Makes shooting RAW easy as shooting JPEG. Aperture out next month $499.
