Ladbrokes, operator of the world’s biggest chain of bookmakers, will have to pay out “thousands of pounds” to customers who correctly bet that “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” would win 11 Oscars.
The U.K. company, which is owned by Hilton Group Plc, offered odds of 50 to 1 that the movie would win Oscars in all 11 categories for which it was nominated at last night’s Academy Awards in Los Angeles, Ladbrokes said in an e-mailed statement.
The final film of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, from Time Warner Inc.’s New Line Cinema, was named best picture at the 76th annual Academy Awards, while Peter Jackson won an Oscar for directing the movie. That helped it match 1959’s “Ben-Hur” and 1997’s “Titanic” for the most Oscars for a single picture.”
Didn’t I say so a few weeks ago? (Too bad I didn’t bet on it!)
=)
Regards, and enjoy the show . . .
