Other Academy Award categories LOTR has been nominated for an Oscar, are in are Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Musical Score (Song), and Best Sound Mixing. But hey, they should allow some of the other pictures to have an Oscar too, right?
In other LOTR news, The Lord Of The Rings – Return Of The King is the second hottest favourite ever for Best Picture following the Oscar nominations. Ladbrokes (A Bookmaker Franchise) makes the final part of the Rings trilogy 1/3 to take the top Oscar – just behind Titanic which was 1/4 to be Best Picture in 1997. Bookmakers also make Peter Jackson the 1/3 clear favourite to be voted Best Director. Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: “The Return of The King is such a strong favourite for Best Picture that we considered not betting on the category at all.” (Source: Ananova.com)
Others are saying that any Academy Award going to the LOTR should also include its two film releases, since each part of the triology was shot simultaneously with this last episode. In other words, it is all a nine hour film (much longer on DVD).
Besides the Academy Awards nominations, LOTR ROTK has won dozens of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, Best Song, and Best Special Effects awards in every competition for prestigeous film making, including the Golden Globe Awards, the Directors Guild awards, the Critics Choice awards, the Broadcast Film Critics award, the Best Empire Film award (the British award for Andy Serkis/Gollum), and the Grammy awards.
