Is Spotlight TOO powerful?

This is my question: is Spotlight simply TOO powerful a desktop search tool? Say I want to find one file, but don’t remember the files name. With Spotlight, I should be able to do a quick search of my hard drive and find it by entering some of the information I know the file contains.

In this case, the file in question was an email (I think) about the specifications of the 20th anniversary Macintosh. If I do a search for ’20th Anniversary Macintosh’ then I don’t have any matches. Is Spotlight only looking for those words in that order? If I look for just one of those words, I get a million and a half results, which takes a long time to look through.

As cool as Spotlight is, it is also limited. Why are there no advanced searching options in Spotlight that I can turn on/off at need? Why can’t I specify that I only want to look for files created before a certain date, or only MP3 files. Sure, I can narrow the search results down once the search has been performed, but why can’t I specify the search parameters beforehand?

Don’t get me wrong; I think Spotlight is wonderful technology. As is Tiger. But both have a need to be tweaked for better performance, as almost every application does.
