Returning from vacation, installing HP software on Barbara’s new iBook, being unable to get any black ink to print, I was very annoyed two days ago. Her printer is a PSC-1315xi all-in-one, and she loves it, when it’s working properly.
I replaced her existing black cartridge with a brand new one, cleaned the contacts as advised in HP’s printed manual, ran the cartridge cleaning utility many times, updated her HP software, and had no success. Color worked fine, but black was nonexistent.
Needing to print a full-spectrum photo, I connected my backup Epson inkjet printer to her iBook, and it printed perfectly, first time. This was ironic, because Epson, not HP, is known for cartridge clogging. Now I was both perplexed and frustrated.
Next day, which was yesterday morning, I gave myself a wild card chance, and printed out an urgent black text page on the HP. Now it works great, and all is forgiven, but what happened overnight to get black to print where it hadn’t on Friday?
