I would have to say that, while the technical side of HDTV sucks, the programming only sucks for the viewer if you don’t happen to enjoy what is being broadcast. Chris does not like the vistas of rolling hills or undersea stuff on Discovery HD. I do. They showcase different cities, towns, and even states as well, and the picture quality is such that you REALLY get a feel for what it is like there. I love the HD programming Discovery is offering up; it is such a breath of fresh air after all the other crap on regular channels.
Also, my HDTV channels have increased to (I think) 14 channels now. Finally got HD-HBO and Starz. (Also HD Cinimax and Showtime, but I don’t subscribe to those) The only major network I don’t get in HDTV is CBS, but that will soon be rectified I hope. Comcast and the local CBS affiliate are having a pissing contest, ongoing for years. In fact, for over a month around five years ago, the CBS affiliate actually stopped the then cable company from displaying their signal. Needless to say, after the outrage of the viewers, the affiliate backed down. (WWMT.COM, for those interested)
I hate big companies such as Comcast because their customer service stinks, they really don’t help anyone with problems, and you can’t get a repairman to your house for weeks at a time. Then again, when I did call to inquire about HDTV and DVR, the person I got on the phone that day was far and away one of the most helpful and delightful people I have ever dealt with in customer service. Not only was she a nice person, great attitude, and helpful, she also cut out all the stupid fees Comcast was trying to charge to install HDTV and DVR in my home. (Over $200 in service fees) She just went in and deleted them all, even without me asking. On the phone, she said, “Wow, they want to charge all this to install HDTV and setup the DVR? Well, not today. HAHAHA! Click-click! I just deleted all those fees!”
What a wonderful women she was. Wish I remembered her name. She was from Alabama, had a think accent, and said she was the stereotypical “country gospel black women.” I am not sure what that really means to anyone else, but to me, that meant helpful, polite, and very, very nice. Just wonderful.
Of course, after the tech installed the DVR box and it did not work, I got someone else on the phone when I called in, and that person was about as helpful as honey during a bee attack. I ended up fixing it myself.
