Give It A Rest Democrats…

Yes, I am a registered Democrat, but I am giving serious consideration to registering other than Democratic now (no, I do not mean Republican!) The Democrats need to give several things a rest, and here are just a few:

First off, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has bothered me so much both before and after this election, I want nothing more to do with them now. This is not simply a money campaign anymore, it has become down right harassment! In the last 5 to 6 weeks, I have received 25 to 30 pieces of [snail] mail, maybe more, from the DNC. I have received over 20 phone calls, 4 to 5 visits to my front door, and dozens upon dozens of emails. One phone caller wanted me to make a pledge of support, which I did, and now I am paying for it, non-stop.

I have asked to be removed from the call and mail list, only to be called two days later. When I asked about it, they said ‘Oh, that was another office, this is the Los Angeles office.’

‘Don’t you all talk to each other,’ I asked?
‘Uh, I don’t know anything about that,’ was the answer.
The next day, the Washington office called.

No wonder the Democrats lost! They have no clue what the other Democrats are doing. You would think that a ‘National’ committee would have some sort of ‘national’ record of its members, would you not? So now, as they continue to call for more and more money to fight the ‘evil’, I have to ask each and every one to please remove me from their lists. It might all stop in a year or two.

Same for the mail I receive. Each piece of mail seems to come from yet another branch of the DNC, and each must be told to remove me. I did make a donation, but imagine my surprise, I did not make it to the one who called, and now they are constantly harassing me that I have not fulfilled my pledge.

‘I made the donation,’ I told the caller.
‘Hmmm, we did not receive it,’ he replied.
‘Well, I have the canceled check right here.’
‘Oh, you must have made it to another DNC branch. Can you still honor this pledge too?’
‘What? Does it not all go to the same place? In a word, NO, I will not be sending another check. You guys need to talk to each other.’ I hung up on what was the third call about my pledge in 1 week.

So #1: Give it a rest DNC. It is no longer asking for support, it is downright harassment.

#2: Senator Art Torres (ret.), the California Democratic party chairman published some interesting information recently. Seems, in general most Democrats like to blame the whole gay marriage thing on why they lost, saying that more voters came out to vote against gay marriage in 11 states, and in doing so, also voted for Bush, pushing him over the top. Wrong!

A looks at the facts shows that in 2000, of the eleven anti-gay-marriage voting states, nine voted for Bush, and two voted for Gore (Oregon and Michigan.) In 2004, the same nine states again voted for Bush, and the same two voted for Kerry. It is also noted that Bush did not gain ANY ground in these states from 2000.

As reported in the New York Times by David Brooks in a piece called ‘The Values Vote Myth’, ‘As Andrew Kohut of the Pew Research Center points out, there was no disproportionate surge in the evangelical vote this year. Evangelicals made up the same share of electorate this year as they did in 2000. There was no increase in the percentage of voters who are pro-life. 16% of voters said abortions should be illegal in all circumstances. There was no increase in the percentage of voters who say they pray daily.’

So Democrats, give it a rest. The gay marriage thing changed nothing. The idea that the Democrats should back down on this issue is unfounded. Democrats, pick a stance and stick by it. But stop blaming the gays for killing your election.

#3: Many Democrats claim that post election ‘explanations’ say that Bush was re-elected because 25% of people interviewed agreed with his ‘moral values.’ As David Brooks also points out, ”¦much of this misinterpretation of this election comes from the poorly worded question in the exit polls. When asked about the issue that most influenced their vote, voters were given the option of saying ‘˜moral values’ [from a list of choices.] But that phrase can mean anything ‘“ or nothing. Who doesn’t count on moral values? If you ask an inept question, you get a misleading result.’

I have to agree, While I am sure ‘moral values’ played a part in EVERYONE’S vote, I, like David Brooks, do not believe it has anything to do with the reason Kerry lost, as I am sure the exit polls of Kerry also claimed they voted because of ‘moral values.’ Lets give this one a rest too Democrats. It is not why Bush won, because frankly, any person, Republican or Democrat alike, who is willing to look closely at Bush’s ‘moral values’ will find that they have a certain, shall we call it, ‘skew’ to them. Under ANY circumstance, preemptively attacking a country that did not attack us first does not put this country on ANY moral high ground, and claiming high morals is a joke.

Be honest about this with yourself. If you are just walking down the street with your child’s new Christmas present, a cool baseball bat, and someone just comes up and beats the crap out of you, and then says ‘I was afraid you were going to hurt me with that weapon, so I hit you first before you could use it,’ does not give that person higher morals.

The bottom line Democrats is that an incumbent president at war is almost always impossible to defeat unless you have an outstanding candidate. The Democrats did not have an outstanding candidate, and polls also showed that many Kerry votes were actually “anti-Bush” votes instead. You cannot win a race on negative votes!

War, Iraq, fear, and terrorism were the driving points in this last race, and Kerry did not hold a candle to Bush on those points I am sorry to admit. Look at the numbers for Bush; he carried married women, the so called ‘security moms’ who you would think, given Bush’s other polices that seem so ‘anti-anything not while male’ that they would have gone the other way.

So give it a rest Democrats, because if you cannot, you will loose another in your ranks, and another, and another. Give it a rest that Bush and the Republicans some how ‘stole’ another election. Maybe if you could find a candidate that stood up for soemthing, and then pick a platform and stick to it, you might actually win an election again.
