Found House, Need Money

Found House, Need Money

So Julie and I found the house we want to call home. As I wrote in my last blog, we already own our home, but the neighborhood is turning to crap, the house is too small, and we want to move. Another reason is our driveway. I hate it. It is small, and if she parks in it before I do, I have to move my car in the morning so she can get out. That bites. We also have no garage, nor any way to get a car to the back yard. In short, this house and property is simply too small for our family.

The house we finally found is just the opposite. Not the largest house in the world, but it 2,080 square foot in interior size. Better yet, it has two out buildings. One is to the right of the driveway, and is used now only to home squirrels and their supply of nuts. It would need some updating to make it fit to store a lawnmower, rakes, shovels, gardening stuff, and the like. But it is in good shape, just needs some new wood. The other outbuilding, however, is HUGE. It is listed as a four-car garage, but that is not accurate. It is actually a poll-barn, metal, and in really fine shape. No water damage or anything, looks nice and dry. It is large enough for at least six to eight cars in there.

The house is about ten to fifteen minutes from where I live now, but is out in the country. It was built in 1850, meaning that it is 151-years old. But surprisingly, it is in fantastic condition. Each of our three kids will have their own room. Most of the plumbing is new, the electrical looks good, the walls are solid and clean, and I only saw one carpet that needs to be replaced. Otherwise, it is in move-in condition.

It also sits on 10 acres. TEN! The only land actually cleared is around the house, with nice grass and a fenced yard from the house to the poll-barn. Perfect place for the two-year-old to play. Enough nice grass for a flag football game. But the rest of the property is unused, and is either thick brush or woods. Yeah, I would clear a little more, but mostly leave it as is.

As for neighbors, there is none on our side of the road for miles. There is a house on the other side of the road, but we cannot see it from our house. We can see their horses from our front yard, but it is over 100-feet away on the other side of the road. Otherwise, it is just open field and land, land, land.

The downside? Money. Looks like the financing will come through (I sign all the paperwork to get that going today) and we still have to contend with our current house. I am seriously leaning to rent it until I can sell it. The reason is, I cannot afford two monthly mortgage payments, and the new house payment is twice what the current one is. So, what to do? I can put it on the market, but I would first need to spend some money making it ready. Then once it goes on the market, knowing my luck, it will be at least six-months before it sells. Honestly, there is no way I can afford to have this house, and its payment, for six months.

All this leads, of course, to me going out and finding a day job so we can afford to sell the current house.

Unless, of course, there is a really rich guy reading this blog who wants to help out a fellow Mac user…
