Election Prognostications

First off: I’m not going to make a presidential prediction, no sir. But I will confidently predict that roughly half the country will be supremely pissed by the result.

I’d have to say the last month, particularly the last few weeks, have been pretty good for President Bush. All the talk has been about the forged National Guard Documents and that is awfully good for the sitting Pres. In fact even if the documents weren’t forged it would be a good thing for the re-election of Bush. The last thing the President really wants to talk about is the last four years of domestic Governance, the perception is that he has failed badly, so if the focus is on twenty-year-old irrelevance it’s all good as far as the Bush camp is concerned.

Unfortunately, if you’re a backer of the President, things seem to be swinging back to actual issues. Kerry is bashing the crap out of Bush for his Iraq policy and Bush is slamming Kerry for waffling. That’s great, some will call it mean spirited politics and all, but that’s the way it’s always been in America. Thomas Jefferson was raked over the coals during his bid for the Presidency so nothing that is happening is exactly unprecedented.

I don’t really have a dog in this fight, I find both options a bit unpalatable to be honest, but right now there actually seems to be a debate about a fundamental difference between the two. I find this surprising, most of the time elections are mainly the candidates basically parroting each other: I’ll expand the economy! No I’ll expand the economy further! (rework this as necessary, the message stays the same). But not this time. This time Bush is hitting Kerry for changing positions as fast as the wind blows and Kerry is criticizing Bush for being to dogmatic.

A really excellent debate in my opinion. One guy is busted for changing his mind more often than I change my clothes (which, unfortunately, is not all that often) while the other is getting slammed for not changing at all. Excellent stuff, it makes my day. It as if they are asking voters to choose on which person is less flawed. Honestly don’t you think that the best governance comes from someone who has a set of principles but also isn’t averse to a little bit of pragmatism?

Note to Bush: The Wolfowitz experiment doesn’t seem to be working (The plan wherein Iraq will be transformed into a modern democracy with a thriving middle class thus serving as a model for the middle east).

Memo to Kerry: Pick one stance on Iraq and stay there. Or don’t. It is hard to say at this juncture.

In any event right now the election is incredibly close and hinging yet again on Florida (zogby) or wildly swinging in favor of Bush (Iowa Electronic Markets).

I may actually watch the debates this year. Sure they are fairly boring and not a real good indication of leadership ability but maybe Bush will mispronounce something or Kerry will come off as incredibly aloof. Probably both. Should be interesting.

Of course not as interesting as….

If you ever dress up in a costume for a convention, well, I guess you’re pretty lame. No really, those people are laughing at you. (Which is okay, people laugh at me constantly when I just going about my day to day life. I’m comic relief for the neighbors)

My oh my that’s a huge post. In Tennessse we’d call that one a ” ‘testine spreader” as in “hoo doggy, that fried chicken you made was one mahty finuh testine spreader, b’leave ah’ll smoke me some baccy an think on it” Actually that’s a lie. People don’t really say ” ‘testin spreader” here, but they should.

BL tridiot rating: just a whole bunch.
