Bad Sequels

I was watching the tube today and saw an advert for: Scooby Doo 2. I saw Scooby Doo and it was pretty bad, I’m guessing that SD2 will be bad enough that if a SD2 DVD is laying on our lawn a year from now we’ll use a pooper scooper to pick it up.

This lead to some tangential thinking. See if you think about how a pile of sand forms… Wait that’s Stube Do 2 (inside joke, move along). I was thinking about bad sequels, or more specifically bad sequels to decent movies. Hence Scooby Doo 2 wouldn’t really count cause Scooby Doo was so bad BUT The Last Pink Panther movie would count cause the original Pink Panther was awfully good.

Bad Sequels:

Highlander 2: The tagline should have been “Pad the wallets on the backs of Teenage suckers”

Star Trek V: I don’t think that any of the Star Trek movies were as good as the original series but some were passable. This wasn’t. “Hey Spock, what say we hunt for God?” “It is logical to hunt for God if it means another paycheck” “great, fire up that tricorder and hunt me up some dexatrim”

Star Wars Ep 1: This was like waiting to have sex until you’re married and then finding out your wife is a man. Come on, we waited forever (16 years) and we got Jar Jar Binks? The force is something penicillian could cure? I would have been less disappointed if they had done the whole thing with stop motion sock monkeys.

Star Wars Ep II: This wasn’t as bad as Ep I but it was more of a dissapointment. When you saw Ep II you realized that Star Wars wasn’t going to get any appreciably better. This is the movie that proved EpI wasn’t a fluke.

CaddyShack II: I have a very different opinion of this movie than one mymacer. This movie was bad on so many levels, the most obvious was all the actors trying imitate the actors from the first movie. “Ya ever putt with a wedgie?” subtle…

Amityville 3-D. SaW this in 84 at the dollar theatre. Our options? Purple Rain or Amityville:The demon. We chose the non 3-d version of Amityville 3-d. My excuse: I was young.

Pink Floyd sans Roger Waters. All I can say is “urk” I know it’s not strictly a sequel but it still bit.

Game of the day:Grand Slam Pinball Pinball loses a lot on a computer but this is the best online version I’ve seen.
