Another Music Blog

Another Music Blog

Okay, two weeks until the election, and I am officially sick of posting political blogs. Not like I am going to change anybody’s mind anyway.

Been a while since I downloaded, or even listened to, any new music. Not that there was not any new music I would not have enjoyed, I’m sure there was. But as of late, my music listening has been curbed. Not sure why, just that nothing sounded good to me. In the car I have been listening to NPR as of late, which I enjoy. My kids hate it, though. Both the nine and ten year old would say ‘Can we listen to music now?’ in a very ‘We hate this talk crap’ type of voice.

So today, while the almost-16 month old was in her high chair watching a Baby Einstein video on my G5 (She has a clear, nice view to the 23’ Apple monitor where she sits) I jumped on my old Lombard Powerbook in the kitchen. No destination in mind, just the usual websites I check out every day, including MacMinute, the status of my eBay sales, the stats to MyMac.com (how many visitors, what they are looking at, etc’¦) check to see if any of the staff posted a new blog since I went to bed last night, the local newspaper site, the local television site to check out the weather radar, and the like.

Today, I was also cruising a bunch of bookmarks I don’t visit often enough, and on one (I honestly don’t remember which) I saw that Duran Duran released a new album. I used to love their music back in the 80’s, and even a few songs they released in the 90’s. But all in all, they kinda faded away from view. Which is too bad, I really liked some of their older stuff, and still listen to it on occasion. Songs such as The Seventh Stranger, Planet Earth, and their best song ever, The Chauffer. Good songs, all. But none of the new stuff was even close.

So I read this review, and in it they speak about how the new album is authentic Duran Duran. Well, I know what that means to me, but I don’t know if the reviewer knows his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to Duran Duran.

I jump on iTunes Music Store (Amazing how that has SO become my means of checking out new music!) and find the album was released a few weeks ago. You have got to love the twenty-second preview they offer, you know? Just click, listen, and decide if this is something you want to buy.

I have to give credit to the review, even though I now don’t remember who he/she was or where I read the review. But this new album, Astronaut, is indeed vintage Duran Duran. This is the music the band created two decades ago that I remember so fondly. Just solid musical tunes that keep the foot tapping.

Click ‘Buy The Album’ and five minutes later I am the happy owner to new music. Of course, I still need to burn it to CD to listen to in my car. So far, I have listened to the entire album once, and my initial impression is that all but two songs are REALLY good.

Check it out. If you like the old Duran Duran, I promise you will like this new music as well.
