MyMac.com Spotlight: Dr. Jan Linxweiler

Who are the people behind the technology that we love so much? We know the products, the websites, the online personalities but we want to learn more!

Every week here at MyMac.com, we will spotlight a company, developer or person that supports Apple users by creating solutions or entertainment for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and other platforms we all use and love by asking them to answer seven questions.

This week, we turn our attention to Dr. Jan Linxweiler of appgineers

1 – How did you get your start in technology?

As a kid I was more interested in creating stuff and learning how things work than actually playing with it. This was also true for our fist computer. Our family had a PC from the early days on, because my uncle had a PC business. Other kids had Commodores or Ataris and played games all the time. As a PC user most of the time you did other things that required that you learn a lot about the OS and the underlying hardware. It all came down to learning Basic and later on Pascal and writing my own little programs together with a friend of mine. Even today, when I get new gadgets, I’m much more interested in how to program it than using it.

2 – What is your favorite computer of all time?

For my daily work i use Mac Pros, but I still own a 13” MacBook Air from 2011. For me this litte machine is one of most amazing devices.

3 – Tell us about your latest product

The latest release from appgineers is “BetterChat for WhatsApp”. This little app lets you use WhatsApp on your Mac.

4 – What was your first job?

I got my first regular job when I was in primary school as a paper boy. As a student i worked part time as paramedic and afterwards as a scientist.

5 – What advice would you give to younger people just getting into technology?

Follow your dreams. Don’t care too much about what others say. Don’t worry too much about what could possibly go wrong. Just do it. If it works, great! If not, great! Your mind is free to follow new dreams.

6 – Who was your inspiration?

My father had a special way of how to think about work. I believe I’m following his way of thinking…

7 – Where can people follow you online, and what is your website?
