Got My Yearly Washer & Dryer Today

Connie and I always thought it was odd that Sears had a contest twenty years ago, where people won new washers and dryers every year for life. They always deliver ours on April 15th.

I mean, who needs a new washer and dryer all the time? Our neighbors have had their Kenmores for years and years. Those things never break down, right?

Well, our washer and dryer is a bit different. There is not a lot of metal in ours. The drums are heavy white plastic. Other than that, they are the same as everyone else’s and they work the same way. The heat setting on the dryer is a bit low, so it takes longer to dry, but no big deal. They are free, after all, and they are quiet.

I’ve figured it out, though. Sears takes the old ones away when they bring in the new ones and hook them up. I suspect that the old ones go to a lab, where they test out the plastic drums to see how they hold up. So in reality, we are testers for Sears’ products.

Anyone else out there have these? If you go into their store, you cannot buy a washer and dryer with plastic drums. Odd.
