Tips and Tricks

In the shareware review, the program “EASY PRINT ” will print up any document you like by simply dragging it onto its icon. The finder will do it just as fast and easy. Simply highlight (one click) the file you want to print, choose print from the file menu, and your mac will take care of the rest. The application the file was created on will launch, display the print window, and quit. Simple as that!

Want an even easier way to shut your mac off? First, go to your Apple menu folder located inside the system folder. Inside the Apple Menu folder will be an icon named “•Shut Down” Simply make an alias of this, drag it to the desktop, and the next time you want to shut down, double click it! No more menu pull downs when you want to turn your mac off. You can also rename the alias anything you wish, such as “off line”.

Want to record a sound longer than the ten seconds your sound control panel allows? Use Simple Text. Launch Simple Text, go to the sound menu, and select record. After you are done, save it to your desktop. This will be a QuickTime movie sound-only file, so use sndConverter (or any shareware sound converter program found on AOL or the Internet) to convert it into a system 7 sound file. When you are done, simply drag the new, converted sound file to your system folder. You can now use this as a system beep, and Simple Text will let you record up to 24 seconds! That’s 1.5 times longer than the sound control panel!

Learn to use your keyboard shortcuts. For instance, let’s say you want to save the text from this page onto another word processor document. Rather then dragging your mouse up to the Edit menu, choosing “select all”, then going back to edit again and selecting “Copy”, use the keyboard shortcut. It will speed up you time dramatically! The shortcut for above is command-A (select all) and command-C. (Copy) The command key is the one with the apple on it.

Do you send much email? Or post to newsgroups? Do not type in all capital letters. No one may tell you this, but all capital letters mean you are yelling. LIKE THIS!!! It also makes it harder to read. So if you are going to send me an email, only use capital letters if you want to ruin my eye sight!
