Cases for your iPhone 6 Plus

On March 23, 2015, in Review, by Rich Lefko

BookBook for iPhone Plus (Reviewed)
Twelve South
Price: iPhone 6/iPhone 6Plus – $59.99 – Red or Black

two sizes

Twelve South is the maker of the “BookBook” line of cases for MacBooks, iPads, and now iPhones. I personally own BookBooks for my iPad and MacBook Air, and I do love them.  These cases are designed to look like old, worn, books. I have handed various BookBook cases to unsuspecting friends and watched (with a grin) as they tried to open the case as if it really was a book. At first glance, they really do look like books. The BookBook for iPhone 6 plus is more than just a case and incorporates the functionality of a wallet.

Backup and archive. Daily. No exceptions.

If you are reading this and you are not fully backed up using Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, stop immediately and order a new external multi-interface bus-powered backup drive or two. Keep one drive handy for daily updates, and the other offsite for safety and security. Email the G-Men on the MyMac Podcast if you need advice on how to use Time Machine and the other two backup applications.

I have been using and testing OWC’s Mercury On-The-Go Pro Triple Interface acrylic-encased FireWire 800/400 + USB 3 SSD and HDD solutions for several months, and I recommend them highly. They are versatile, sturdy, affordable, efficient, fast, and have the best guarantee in the business. Obtain an OWC unit with more storage than you think you need, because soon you will be glad you have the extra capacity. Get an SSD if max speed is your top priority, or choose an HDD if cost and max GB are paramount.

Take a Stand

On May 22, 2012, in Macbook Air, Review, Stand, by Rich Lefko

Take a Stand.

If your home office is anything like mine you never have enough desk space. When I finally get around to clearing things off my desk it doesn’t take very long before new things appear. Sometimes I think empty space on my desk becomes magnetic and attracts new stuff that accumulates. My problem is where do I put my MacBook Air, iPad, and iPhone, when I get home from work or travel? Maximizing the desk space you have is key to getting the most use. Laying my MacBook Air, or iPad flat takes up a lot of valuable space. So why not stand them up?

Here are products that might help you reclaim some of your valuable desktop space.

For your MacBook Air:

BookArc for MacBook Air
Company: Twelve South
Price: $39.99

The BookArc is an aluminum stand that holds your MacBook Air (MBA) in a closed upright position. The slot that holds your MBA is covered in soft silicon and is a snug fit as you slip your MBA into the slot.

The Perfect Disguise? BookBook for Air
Review

On November 21, 2011, in Cases, Macintosh, Review, by Rich Lefko

BookBook for Air
$79.99

Twelve South   Back in December of 2010 I reviewed the BookBook for iPad. I still use that case because of the construction and protection it gives my iPad as well as the way it disguises it. The BookBook for MacBook Air brings that same protection to Apple’s lightweight portable line of computers.

The iPad is such a unique device that manufacturers are only starting to catch up with accessories and cases that match its style. Twelve South, a manufacturer of creative MacBook cases, has released their first iPad product, the BookBook for iPad.

BookArc Table Top Stand for iPad
Review

On December 7, 2010, in Dock, iPad, Review, Stand, by John Nemerovski

BookArc Table Top Stand for iPad
Company: Twelve South
Price: $30

Guest review by Howard Nemerovski

The people at Twelve South are very creative, with the flexibility necessary for marketing success. They demonstrated that cleverness last month by reducing the price of the BookArc for iPad from $39.99 to $29.99.

At the reduced price point, the BookArc is a reasonable purchase for those who are drawn to well-designed, sturdy high-quality products for which there is no serious need.

The BookArc is an attractive, sturdy, brushed heavy gauge steel stand with a modifiable slot that holds the iPad either vertically or at a slight angle from vertical, in either portrait or landscape orientation. In any of those positions, the iPad can be connected to its charger, and the user will continue to have ready access to the Home button and the other controls. The BookArc has soft, non-scratching silicone feet for secure positioning on a table top, desk top, kitchen counter, home theatre stand, or night stand.
