Yes, this is WAY too many navigators.

Let’s talk Mobile Navigators. Those wonderful little programs you pop on your mobile phone, and they tell you how to get from where you are to where you want to go. I love them. No longer do I have to think about how I get to where I am going, I just ask my iPhone to get me there, and I am off. It is just that easy, right?

I have been using NAVIGON MobileNavigator North America for the last couple weeks. NAVIGON NA is a GPS app for Apple’s iPhone. Unlike the built in Google Maps app, Navigon provides turn-by-turn directions, similar to Google Maps on Android devices, or TomTom.

One of the great promises of the mobile phone with a built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) chip, was/is the elimination of a dedicated device for that purpose. Everyone has to travel somewhere, whether it be to work or play. Having the ability to receive turn by turn directions to your desired destination has had and continues to have a great appeal to all travelers. Companies like TomTom and Garmin have amassed great fortunes through the sale of personal GPS devices. However, can this dominance continue within the dog-eat-dog environment of the App Store ether?
