Lexmark E332n Laser Printer – Review
Company: Lexmark

Price: $499 US

As I write this, the last Lexmark printer I reviewed was the C510 Color Laser Printer almost a year ago. I very much enjoyed that printer, as I generally have all the Lexmark printers that have found their way into the Michigan MyMac.com Review Labs. (Or my home office, if you will) The C510 was a large printer, and in contrast, the E332n is small, not much larger than a common multifunction printer. There is where the comparisons end.

The E332n is a monochrome (read, no color) network laser printer that takes up a small amount of desk space. It sports a USB 2.0, a parallel port, and 10/100Base T Ethernet ports. (Users of older computers with USB 1 will also be able to connect to the printer, although sending print jobs will be a little slower). With 32MB of internal memory and a 100MHz processor, this is a powerful compact laser printer.

X5150 Multi-Function Printer
Review

X5150 Multi-Function Printer
Company: Lexmark

Price: $149.00 US

As the official reviewer of all things Lexmark here at MyMac.com, I have had the opportunity to use a variety of their printers over the last three years. And while I have, for the most part, enjoyed using them all, as well as being generally impressed with their product line, I have to say that the latest X5150 has gone above and beyond what I have come to expect from a Lexmark product.

The X5150 is a multi-function printer, scanner, and copier. It connects to your Mac or PC via USB, and comes in an attractive silver and black plastic case. The physical look of the printer is very elegant, though I do wish it came in an iMac inspired white or, better, a clear plastic. The built-in LCD display gives you access to many of the copiers functions without the need to touch your computer.

PrinTrio
Review

PrinTrio

Ever have a plateful of items to review, and real life starts to get in the way? No? You don’t do hardware and software reviews for an online publication? Well, imagine, if you will, my predicament. Here I am, with a bevy of review items sitting in the queue, and not being able to sit down for a few hours to write a review. Imagine that these are actually products you requested to review, rather than the plethora of items that show up unannounced on your doorstep. That is my predicament and I would be remiss not to apologize to one company in particular: Lexmark.

See, Lexmark was kind enough to send me the PrinTrio for evaluation months ago. Originally, I had planned to review the unit in our Video Review feature. The unit lends itself beautifully to that medium of review. Yet in all these months, I have yet to film a new video review! Not wanting to put this review off any further, here I am writing a review of the unit. (A video review takes about ten times as long to film, edit, convert, and post than a text review.)

What really ticks me off, more than anything else, is knowing some of you went and purchased a new printer during the holiday season, and that you may not have picked this unit to buy. For that, I am sorry. The PrinTrio should have been at the top of your list of printers.

Lexmark Z53 Colorjet Printer
Review

Lexmark Z53 Colorjet Printer

Lexmark
Price: $139.99

Readers of mymac.com ask me quite often which products they should buy. I have been asked that question at least once a week, actually, for the past six years. The most common, besides “Which Mac should I buy?” is “Which printer would be best for me?” A hard question to answer, not knowing what the end user is going to use the printer for. But for the average home or small business user, who is not in need of a Postscript printer, the answer gets easier.

Currently, there are not a lot of choices when it comes to small personal and affordable printers for the Macintosh. The newest printer from Lexmark, the Z53, is a welcome addition to what I hope will be a growing field of affordable yet high-quality printers.

The Z53 is color Ink-Jet printer that uses two print heads, one black, the other color. It handles up to 2400 x 1200 DPI, kicks out 16 pages in black (less than half that in color) and connects via your Macs USB port. The printer is also fully Windows compatible.
