BatMac is no more. Listen to the harrowing story of a MacBook Pro’s last few minutes of life. Tim’s iPhone also attempts a swan dive in an Ikea parking lot to put the Zero Chroma Teatro-S case to the test. Plus, Tim and David look at the iPhone 5 and all-new iPod Nano.
Gaz and Guy welcome Tim back‚again, to the MyMac.com podcast where he regales us with some pretty exciting news. He’s taking a top spot with MacSpecialist in Chicago AND starting a new Podcast to be called TechFan. We go over the iOS possibly replacing OS X (and we don’t agree), some more about the iPod Nano, a discussion on FTP and what may replace that too. We (well mostly Gaz and Tim) do some comparisons between the new AppleTV and the Mac Mini while Gaz replaces a drive in an Apple Time Capsule.
Since the introduction of Apple’s new iPod lineup on September 1st, there has been a lot of commentary on the internet about the new iPod nano. While most people seem to view it as a worthy update that creates a very nice, focused music player, some people are upset with Apple for removing features that were in the previous generation of nano. I think they are wrong to perceive the changes negatively. Apple’s decision to go against conventional wisdom and remove features from the new nano makes sense, in my opinion.

DLO Action Jacket for iPod Nano, 2nd generation
Company: Digital Lifestyle Outfitters
Price: $29.99 MSRP

For well over two years now, I’ve been using a DLO Action Jacket for my iPod Shuffle, primarily when I’m running or working out. When I upgraded to an iPod Nano, 2nd generation, it was only logical that I also upgrade to DLO’s Action Jacket for iPod Nano, 2nd generation.
Running 2-plus miles, usually five times a week, can put the iPod under a lot of stress, primarily from weather and high moisture, as in sweat. I’ve learned that the DLO Action Jacket does a great job of preventing harsh conditions from impacting upon the iPod.

OtterBox’s Armband
Company: Otter Products, LLC
Price: $14.95
Back in November of 2005, I wrote a review of the OtterBox for the iPod Shuffle. I’ve spent the past two years enjoying my iPod Shuffle, running with it, working around the house and yard with it, exercising with it… in other words, getting my monies worth out of it. But finally, I really got tired of not being able to see exactly what I had on the Shuffle and trying to remember what song might be next.

With all the new Apple announcements today, a certain Senator once again will have to be VERY concerned about how full his pipes are. A friend asked me what his name was, but I had to admit that I wasn’t sure. My wife keeps up on these things so I quickly told him, “I don’t know, Alaska.” Ba-da BUMP PSSSSssssshhhh.
OK, all joking aside (yes that was a joke), the Stevenote was very interesting and had me excited because I am in FULL reality distortion field mode while it’s going on. Makes the crash afterwards very difficult to manage, though I must admit that it does bring back vague half remembered memories from rock concerts in the 1970s. Let’s start with the good, the bad, and the ugly from each category.

No day at the beach
The iPod nano. The name just oozes music technology. OK, so it doesn’t exactly inspire the image of a couple walking hand-in-hand along a sun-drenched beach with their iPod nano supplying music through the headset (each person has one headphone plug, isn’t that cute?) as the sun (with a stupid cartoon-like grin) slowly melts away. What it did give me however is severe techno lust.
