Macspiration 99
Personal Domain in iWeb/.Mac

On September 11, 2007, in Macspiration, by Donny Yankellow

With the introduction of iLife 08 you can now have your iWeb sites use your own personal domain that you have registered rather than using For example, my domain,, now points to my site that I have made in iWeb. Previously, the way to have this work was with domain forwarding through your registrar, but you would need to turn on something called masking to hide the address once the web browser got to your site.

iLife 08

On September 10, 2007, in Opinion, by Robert Hazelrigg

First things first; iPhoto has completely hosed my photo library. After installing iLife 08 I noticed three things: there are now 200 photos in a library folder called “ recovered photos” dated 1998. I didn’t own a digital camera until 2001. Then I noticed none of my pictures taken in 2007 can be found under 2007 “event” dates. Moreover, a number of other pictures have been misplaced in other “events”. For instance I have one photo of my daughter Emily from when she was first born that is sitting in the same event that contains images of her when she was 4 years old.

iPhoto didn’t remove any photos (as far as I know) but it’s as if the application just dumped my neatly organized photo collection all over the floor for me to resort. Luckily for me I have an organized backup. I seem to be having success re-importing the originals one folder at a time.

iPhoto 08

On August 13, 2007, in MacRelevant, by Tim Robertson

Last weekend, Chad Perry (of Podcast fame) and I ventured up to the new Apple Store in Ann Arbor, Michigan to check out the iPhones, iMacs, the new keyboards, and pick up copies of iLife ’08.

First, the new Apple Store in Ann Arbor is a nice place, not much different at all than any other Apple store in any other mall in America. Small, clean, and full of people. The staff were very nice. While paying for iLife ’08 at the counter, I witnessed a gentleman with a Powerbook (or Macbook Pro, could not tell) battery problem. It would only hold a small charge, and drain very quickly. Time to buy a new battery? Nope, the helpful Apple Genius informed him that his particular batter was recalled, so he would be getting a free replacement. Nice!

After looking at the new iMacs, and wanting one a lot, Chad and I spent the most time playing with the iPhone. I had only seen one in person up until now, and that was under glass at the Macworld Expo back in January. I had not actually had the chance to play with one. And I kind of wish I hadn’t. You see, I can’t think of any justification to give Julie (my wife) why I should buy it. None. And that’s a problem, as I now want one. VERY badly. As does Chad.
