MyMac Podcast #501 – Mittens

No Gaz this week as he gets his revenge on Guy for being gone for MacWorld. Or something like though it may actually just be spending time with the family someplace fun and not about Guy at all. Speaking of run on sentences, Owen joins Guy and they talk about Macworld (though in no great detail) in a very informative and revealing (where we find out why Guy is Gus and Owen is Opie! How exciting is that!). STILL no end to the podcast contest (next for maybe sure!) and lots of some of the interviews done by the MyMac Staff at some Expo or something.

Unless you live under a rock or are new to the Internet, no doubt you’ve heard of 1Password. On the off chance you haven’t, 1Password is a full-featured password manager that works with Macs, Windows, iPhone, iPad, and Android. It’s the one app I’ve downloaded on all my devices, no questions asked, since 2007. With all these years of experience you’d think I’d be a 1Password expert. I’m not, so I turned to the expert, Joe Kissell, who’s written yet another fabulous book, Take Control of 1Password.

MyMac Podcast #477 – James Garner Would Be SO Proud

What does the English vs American way of saying deep fried thin potato slices, a 1950’s era western satire, the possession of current mobile phones, a conversation of potential new features in an operating system, and the regretted consumption of iced tea flavored vodka drinks have in common? Guy is Tanned, Rested, and Ready! – MyMac Podcast #464

On July 2, 2013, in Podcast, by The MyMac Podcast

mymac464
Guy is back from Florida a little early so was able to get the wherewithal to do a podcast. Gaz however is still exhausted from last week’s show with Will Green so wasn’t able to be here. Bart Busschotts from too many podcasts to list (OK we COULD list them but few people read these notes) agreed to fill in and the result was not only a very fun podcast, but the LONGEST after-show recordings we’ve ever done. We talked about how Mavvericks won’t mean the end for some well known and vital software, lots of off-topic tangents (surprise), and how to get out of a speeding ticket in Tel Aviv.

So the Macworld Expo ends for another year. Guy couldn’t find Julie Kuehl to podcast with so he did a short solo show in the press room. While we wish the fun times could go on forever, we’re all too tired to go another day.

Paul Kent from IDG comes on o talk all about the Macworld/ iWorld Expo for 2013 and Guy geeks out. As it stands right now, Guy may be the only MyMac male member this year, but Elisa Pacelli, Vicky Stokes, and Julie Kuehl (Cool) will undoubtably keep him in line. Gaz and Guy answer a serious storage question (no really!) and Apple doesn’t want to be undisturbed until after January 7th.

While the GMen are off NOT doing the 3 Geeky Ladies podcast, Timothy Gregoire from the ChurchTech Geeks podcast  was brave enough to fill the gap. He and special guest Ryan Wells talk about special security set-ups for the Church Tim attends. They then have a discussion of all the Apple gear just released. Some Links: Tim’s Tip. You’ll have to listen to find out what Chiroptophobia is, but the why they called the show that is still a mystery. Maybe they have a fear of naming things (no that would be Nomatophobia). The big 400th Podcast is coming up and Gaz and Guy can’t WAIT to give you people stuff for being so wonderful about listening to the show! However they seem to be able to make you wait until the 400th podcast actually happens. So far they have three companies willing to pony up some great prizes including BusyCal from BusyMac Software, the Co-Pilot iOS app from ALK Technologies , and MacKeeper 2012 from ZeoBIT Software. Then they go over a big list (but not a conclusive list) of the software they like on their Macs and why.

Guy and Gaz finally get back together after the Macworld Expo and go over all the major events as seen through the eyes of Guy (No guarantees about accuracy). Gaz in withdrawal does about a billion other podcasts. There was a lot of listener feedback which they only kinda half-answer (they’ll get back to it, promise!). A longer show because Guy doesn’t when to stop TALKING!

On The Far End of an Anonymous Attack

On August 15, 2011, in Features, News, by Owen Rubin

It was a typical Sunday afternoon, lazing around the house, watching some TV, and doing some chores, when the phone rang. “Hello Mr. Rubin, this is KGO News calling.”

“Really?”

“Are you aware that the BART website MyBart had been hacked into?”

Nope! I was not aware.

From the KGO news story, BART site hacked.

Gaz couldn’t make it this week so Scott Willsey and Owen Rubin fellow writers at MyMac.com step up to the plate! We talk in circles around new content at MyMac.com while still managing to completely avoid whatever the story was actually about (but it works so go with it!). We talk about some of the options for remote desktop software and give some applications a quick review!
