Cary Lu Remembered This issue is respectfully dedicated to Cary Lu. As an advocate of the Macintosh for many years, his influence and insights into personal computing will be greatly missed. A frequent contributor to Tidbits, Mr. Lu was also a contributing editor for Macworld Magazine. You can learn more about Cary by visiting Tidbits on the Web at their special "Cary Lu Remembered" site at http://www.tidbits.com/carylu While I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, we did exchange quite a bit of e-mail over the past three years, and I was also fortunate enough to reprint one of my favorite Cary Lu "Mac vs. PC" columns, "Computing's Holy War", way back in issue #7 (November of 1995). When I asked for his permission to reprint the column, Cary first wanted a sample of My Mac. So I sent him issue #5, at that time the most current issue. Rather than simply saying "yes", Cary also took the time to write a very long letter about what I was doing, and gave a new publisher/writer the moral support I really needed at the time.
I firmly believe that Cary Lu, with his encouragement, helped make My Mac what it is today and I will forever be grateful to him. So I dedicate this issue to Cary Lu, who died of cancer on September 23rd at the too young age of 52.
New Writers First, I would like to welcome Victor Wong, CEO of PowerTools, a Macintosh clone manufacturer. Victor has been one of the most outspoken computer industry CEOs in recent memory, and his views and thoughts on the Macintosh platform enjoy the benefit of his years of experience in the industry. His unique perspective on computing and the Macintosh won't be found in any other publication, and we feel it's a real honor to have him aboard. He would very much like to hear from you (and sell you a computer or two :-) ), so be sure to drop him a note after you read his new ongoing monthly column here in My Mac! Beginning with this issue we also welcome Mick O'Neil. Mr. O'Neil's name will be already familiar to our readers in Europe as the writer of "The Mac Factor", appearing in Personal Computer World Magazine, Europe's premier computer magazine. Mick's new monthly column, entitled "The Mac Factor" (imagine that!) will showcase one of the best writers in the Macintosh community. And last but not least, I would also like to welcome Susan Howerter, writer of the new column, "Out Of The Apple Cart." Susan, as you may remember, wrote last month's "The Readers Voice" letter, and I was so impressed with her that I just had to ask if she would consider writing a column every month for My Mac. She graciously accepted, and I am very pleased to have her here. I'm sure you will find her writing as enjoyable as any others you are likely to read in print or on electronic media.
So, Victor, Mick, and Susan, welcome to My Mac Magazine. I'm sure you will find us an easy going staff, and our readers are the best you could ever hope to get to know. We're all here for two reasons: our love of writing and our love of the Macintosh platform. Welcome, and may your stay be long and enjoyable!
