My Mac- A NEW LOOK
At My Mac, we try and keep current with what's going on in the Mac world so that we can keep you informed of the changes occurring every day. My Mac itself has changed since its inception and will continue to do so that we don't become stagnant or antiquated. So as you read through this month's issue, you'll see that we have changed font and size to make it easier to read (and edit!) and you will continue to see changes as we continue our journey together down the Mac path of computing. Let us know what you think of the new look.

Where's Mike?
Thanks go out to fill in cover artist Alan Dingman this month for a truly great cover. The first time I saw this months cover, it really blew me away. Alan is a talented and gifted artist, one I hope we will see more of he in My Mac. But where, some of you may ask, is Mike?

Mike Gorman got married! Congratulations go out to Mike from the whole My Mac staff! Mike took his new bride on a long honeymoon, and of course could not do this months cover. We wish him all the best! Of course, we would like to see him return as soon as possible. :-)

Ellison Revisited
Larry Ellison, the billionaire CEO of Oracle Inc., who last month issued his call for the purchase and takeover of Apple to "save it from itself", has finally issued the details of how he plans to accomplish this. It seems that he wants to "save" Apple by having it produce appliance-like computers, essentially servers without hard drives, that would hook up to applications and information via the Internet instead of a traditional personal computer. Wow, maybe he can include a cappuccino maker in place of the hard drive for those Mac users who will now have plenty of space and time to use it. We can always use the useless CD-ROM tray as the cup holder.

More Ellison...
Of course, most of us now know that Larry Ellison has decided not to buy Apple. Ah well. I know most everyone was afraid that he would completely abandon the desktop Mac in favor of the "Appliance Computer" but I knew better. His plan was to continue the desktop machine line as it is now, as well as add his network computer division. We, of course, will never know if it would have worked. From reading all the things other Mac users have said, it would appear that I was almost alone in thinking this would be a good idea!

Web Design and the Mac
Finally someone in the publishing industry appears to have done their homework for a change. Web Week magazine, in a recent survey of firms involved in Web design, reported that 64% of designers surveyed use the Mac to do their Web work. Considering the long history of preference for the Mac in the graphics industry, it's nice to hear that it has been recognized for its impact upon the World Wide Web. Good news for a change.

IBMAC
IBM has finally started making Mac portable's! However, this new IBM made Macintosh will not bear the IBM logo. Rather, IBM is producing this Mac for Apple, and it will bear the Apple logo. The 2400 (Code named Comet) will be available soon, or so we have heard. Early testers of the machine give it high praise. Rest assured that My Mac will try and lay our hands on one soon to give you more information.
