Holy cow! Fifty issues out the door of a magazine I created! Who woulda thought it? Certainly not I. Truth be told, I figured I would be writing reviews for another magazine by now, perhaps reviewing the latest hi-fi systems or the latest music releases. But back in 1995, did I think I would still be heading the good ship My Mac? No way. Why? Because back then, I couldn't imagine enough people would be interested enough to keep it around for very long. But I was mistaken. People kept on reading, kept on subscribing to the email list, and eventually companies actually wanted to advertise in the magazine. Who woulda thunk it? So here we are, the big 5-0. I was really excited a few months ago contemplating this milestone for us. I thought it would be great if the staff could also acknowledge this issue with something special in their columns. Most did, and I cannot tell you how much their words means to me when I read them. Some have mentioned me specifically, like I am anything special. Really, I just came up with the idea, and have nurtured it along with a whole lot of help. This is not the Tim Robertson show, nor would I ever want it to be. I am simply the first guy here, that's all. Everyone else who has followed should take the credit (or is that the blame?). Creating My Mac month after month has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life (though it doesn't come close to the birth of my daughter, Raechel, both "born" within a few months of one another). This is a special issue for us. We welcome your feedback, which tends to make our letter page a little better the next issue :-) On other thing: Bob came up with an idea a few months ago which we had to put on hold until this issue and the new website were all done. With all that behind us now, and looking toward the future, we can move ahead with it. We would like to ask you to send in your own experience or story about your first Mac. What was it like when you first sat down in front of the smiling Mac face, the first time you went online? Did it change your life? Did you have a heart attack the first time your Mac crashed on you and you didn't know what to do? Did you get a huge discount on your first Mac, making it even more special? Please write to us with your stories about your first Macintosh experience. Our address can be found on The Last Page.
See you next month!
The Website Redesign Last December, when Tim asked me to redesign the website for issue #50, I knew it was going to be no easy task. Our website has been totally redesigned from the ground up, but it blends the best of our old site with the best of the new. The new features are many, and I'll give you a brief rundown here: What's New Here is a very brief summary of our most important new features, ones we're very excited about. Of course, I had a great deal of help in designing and completing the new website. I recruited Jason Kim, our resident shareware reviewer and now our website contributing editor. His creative talent helped me a great deal. I truly could not have completed this task without him! Jason and I will continue to make more improvements in the coming months, so keep a close eye on our website!
What My Mac means to me My Mac Magazine is more than a job to me, it's a passion. I cherish each and every moment I write a column or work on the website. I hope that each of you enjoys reading My Mac Magazine as much as I do in helping to create it. Issue #50 is a milestone for us, and we welcome all of your feedback regarding our new website. Every email we receive makes all our hard work and effort worth it, so please feel free to give us your feedback, even if it's simply to say "hi."
Take care,
Mac OS 8.6
